Which Exhausts?

Alright guys, as most of the people on here do, I'm going to ask a few questions. Please keep in mind I don't really know anything about cars, except that I know what I like.

Now that I got the "I'm an idiot" disclaimer out of the way, I want to get some exhausts for my '92 RS, but I really don't know what I should be looking for. As I was on Flowmasters site, I ran across the 30 Series, which.. to me, sounded great. However, I'm not sure if I can afford $400 on some exhausts. However, My neighbor says he will sell me his old flowmasters for.. Get this.. $40.00. Next time I see him I will ask what car the exhausts came from, but in the mean time. What exhaust will I need to fit into my car?

What other brands are out there? I know of Spintech, but, from what I heard, their prices are the same thing, if not more then Flowmasters. Anyway, thanks for the help.

PS: I posted this int he "Exhausts" forum, but they told me to post it in here

I have the Dynomax Super Turbo catback exhaust system, and it only cost $160, and has a nice rumble at low RPMs, and I did notice a little acceleration increase.

Agreed, hear sound clips of mine here: http://www.geocities.com/tomp_3rdgen/exhaustclips.html

Keep in mind if your neighbor will sell you his old Flowmasters for $40, you will only use one of them. Then you need the pipes; if you put a larger muffler on stock pipes, there's really no point to the muffler. The Dynomax #17493 (Summitracing.com use WLK-17493) comes with 2.5" mandrel-bent pipes that meet the factory hangers.

Installing it is much easier if you raise the back of the car and unbolt the shocks so you can lower the axle to the ground. It's not hard to lower the axle down; but you'll need a torque wrench ($70 at Sears or $30 thru a cheap tool joint, not sure about how much Pep Boys & Autozone & Etc charge).

go with dynomax super turbo catback, got mine from some 159.99, 8.95 handling, and shipping is free. i recomned getting a high flow converter if you want more power out of your exhaust catco and dynomax make them. If you want maximum power and a bad a$$ sounding car get pacesetter headers, listen to a guy named dale on this site his car sounds mean expessially at idel

Dynomax Cat-Back system hands down. Just about the best thing I've heard on a relatively stock 3.1 V6. Price is prettty badass too. Be forwarned though, If you do what I did and cut the cat out in search of more powerm the sound gets pretty raspy in the upper RPM's (above 3000).

On that note though, a 3.1 with open manifolds running at about 5500 RPM sounds pretty badass. Like a ricegrinder from hell!! Seriously though, Dynomax-the only way to go.

Ohh man, you should really hear a sound clip on the Raven exhaust, really nice and deep mellow sound and sounds like a mean racing machine when you rev it. I just got a raven put into my 91 RS 350 V8, I highly reconmend it.

Now this one confuses me a little. The Dynomax pipe I ended up with did not fit the hanger that was on my car. The previous stock pipe I bought (not Dynomax) had a hanger welded to only one spot on the pipe (that is why the pipe ended up with a big hole in it), and this one matched up with the car. The Dynomax pipe I got had a hanger welded to two spots on the pipe (much better design) and required a new hanger to bolt to the car's frame. From what I understand, the new part that I bought that bolts to the frame is the same as the stock V8 hanger.

BTW, I like the sound of the Dynomax Super Turbo on my car.

New custom made StainlessWorks muffler going on in about 2 weeks.
This is not a glasspack, its a straight through baffled design with stainless mesh that will not burn out. It will replace the I-pipe exhaust section and I will entirekly do away with a rear mounted muffler.

thats my plan when (cough*IF i ever get some freakin money not spent reparing somthing*cough) i get headers, headers to downpipe to cat, then a baffled whatever thingie (in line muffler), and out the side before it even goes over the axel. shorter exhaust = tony happy

EDIT+
a while back (a year maybe) a guy posted a drwing and a few photos detailing his exhaust setup exactly as i am describing (excepy all rusty and with a 20$ piece of trash cherry bomb knock off). i just spent about 30 minutes searching and reading. could not find it.
