Car: 86 Firebird 2.8
Engine: 2.8l v-6
Transmission: auto
no power
i came home at lunch from work and when i went to leave to go back my car wont start. no crank, no nothing. at first it sounded like it grinded for a split second and then nothing. im wondering if maybe my new headers get too close to the starter but im not sure where the starter is

well ive ruled out the starter as there is absolutely no power to the car. lights wont come on, fuel pump wont prime, nothing works. i tried to jump start but even hooking up to another car the light wont come on. could this be the ignition switch grounding out? its not a VATS key. what could the problem be?

alternator is toast, i'd put money on it
i've had 2 go on my car, and it sounds just like my problems, even when i jump started my car it wouldn't run. new alternator fixed it

Take your battery leads off the battery, clean them with a wire brush and then reinstall them so they have good contact. Or better yet, submerse them and the the entire wire end soak inside a cup of Coca-Cola. Has to be coke, Pepsi will not do *THIS IS NOT A JOKE. I AM 100% SERIOUS)
It is generally those crappy modern battery leads that screw into the side of the battery. They build up corrosion inside rapidly and break the contact. I did away with them years ago and went back to the good ol top mount leads

yes, I too have heard about teh coke quick fix. the acid in it. while the batt calbe leads are off , find out the voltage of the batt. It may be dead.

well im goin to go grab a new batter once i get ahold of a ratchet with an extension to get the holddown bolt out. im hoping it wasnt something with the starter grounding out and killing it or the ignition switch grounding out. could that be a possibility?

any dark soda will do, i have used coke, i have used pepsi, i have even used rootbeet, anything dark has alot of acid when it comes to getting rid of corrosion. granted coke does work the best, but the others work well too. just grab a can and pour it on being careful not to let the soda touch both terminals at once. \\\
just think what that stuff will do to your insides if it does that to your terminals!
