Where is the heater control valve on a 2.8? Does it have one?

Hi guys, I junked the 2.8 from my Firebird and installed a 305 roller motor in its place. I have completed converting most of the wiring, computer, and emissions routing to the 1983/84 V8 configuration. However there is one thing I noticed. The V8 uses a heater control valve that is under the hood, inline with one of the heater lines coming off the firewall. It has a small vac line to switch coolant supply to the heater core on/off. I can not locate a heater selector/control valve under the hood on the V6. Does it have this part at all (I know a lot of old cars didn't have a heater control valve, hot coolant always flowed through the heater core, and then the blower motor simply controlled whether or not you had heat). If it does have a heater control valve, is it under the hood like a V8 or inside the car? It was a 2.8 AC car if that matters. I kept AC with the V8.

That little piece o' happy is located between the #1 and #3 (PASSANGER side).

It's a black plastic valve, with 2 lines on one side, and 1 on the other, with a UFO on top.

I'd recommend ditching it, myself.

Doward the car is no longer a V6. Where is "between #1 and #3", was it up on top of the engine and clearly visible? I know what a heater control valve looks like w/ the UFO thing on top, I just can't find it on this car. The 2 lines for the heater come out of the firewall and go straight down. Eventually they end up as 2 metal hard lines on the pass side frame rail, and then become rubber hoses again. The previous owner had removed some of the emissions equipment on the 2.8. I can see him thinking the heater control valve was a piece of smog equipment and removing it. I will go junkyard searching for another heater control valve. Where does the tiny vac line on top of the UFO thing come from? I know that is the switched vac to turn the heat on.

my car didn't have one, or the first owner took removed it before it got to the dude I bought it from. Check & see if your 83 came w/one origonally i.e. call parts store & see if they list one).

The vacuum line for the control valve goes into the harness on the HVAC box on the firewall. I assume it goes inside the car from there. The harness and vacuum line are all wrapped up in black tape on my car.

This 83 2.8 Carbed car does not have that vacuum line either. It has the black vac. reservoir thing behind the brake booster with a line going into it coming across the engine bay, thru the firewall from the heater box area. The other port on the vac. reservoir is disconnected and I am trying to figure out where it goes. Gah! This is so frustrating

Here's the answer -- I consulted my 1983 factory service manual. NO ENGINE in 1983 in the F car had a coolant valve. Heat was controlled simply by the heater door. The inline 4, V6, and V8s in 1983 were all plumbed like an old car -- the heater core always has coolant flowing through it no matter what. I should have consulted the FSM in the 1st place. This makes my life a lot easier.
