Re: T5- need help plz!!!

a test.
come to a stop at the stop sign, put tranny in reverse, then go to 1st. does it still grind? if so it may be your synchro(s).

this is about the extent of my transmission knowledge.

Re: T5- need help plz!!!

does it ever pop out of 1st when you are driving? and does it grind the whole time the clutch is in?

Re: T5- need help plz!!!

i think it has popped out 1ce or 2ce but ya as soon as i push the clutch in and go to put it in first its starts the noice untill i almost stop. if i put it in neutral it doesn't make a sound. its as im going into 1st/ untill i almost stop w/ it in first. but it only does it on the downshift.

and if i went and got in my car and took off right now it wouldn't make a sound either.

Re: T5- need help plz!!!

check the fluid and or change it sometimes a low level will cause the trany to make noises. but it kinda sounds like the first gear synchro if it has poped out of gear on you. if you let off the gas in first or any gear after a hard take off and it pops out then the synchro's are shot.

Re: T5- need help plz!!!

now how do i go about changing/adding fluid to my tranny....will auto tranny fluid work?

its not the synchro's then cause it didn't pop out of gear after i got on it and just let off the gas

Re: T5- need help plz!!!

I had a similar problem with my first T5. it would only get real bad "annoying" as my engine/trans temp started to raise. make sure youre trans isnt overheating causing everything to expand. Ive noticed on the two thirdgens ive owned that 1st and reverse are tricky, even with a brand new tranny. As for the noise i can't say, but first gear definetely likes to fight back when youre downshifting.

Re: T5- need help plz!!!

there are two big bolts on the trany case that you drain-fill-check the level with. my not sure where they are on that trany or what fluid goes in it. i would ask that question in the driveline board.

Re: T5- need help plz!!!

If I remember correctly they are on the side of the tranny, about in the middle, maybe a bit back from the center length wise. They look like square bolts and are usually pretty tight.

And although this is a manual tranny, it uses Dextron 2 or up. Check your Haynes to be sure.
