brake, suspension, mileage, etc, woes....

During the summer my mileage was getting to be pretty good again. Just before it started getting cooler, I noticed a drop. The colder it's been getting lately, the worse my mileage has been getting. I've also been having a worsening problem with the alt charging at 8-9 volts while idling at stoplights and such (I have it in neutral too). Sometimes the tach is falling to zero if it idles below 700. I have an underdrive pulley, but it seem to just be getting worse lately.

It tends to hesitate again too while taking off from a stop.

I've also had the car die while slowing down and hitting the brakes as I pull into work or the carport. Twice now.

As for the brakes, mainly it's the front right. The rotors feel a bit warped, and the inner pad is loose, flopping up and down at around 30mph. I can here it echoing off the buildings while driving through town.

The suspension is also dying I think. The source of the clunk sound from the FR area is still eluding me.

There is also the rattle from the right side of the engine that is driving me nuts whenever I'm driving between 1500-1700rpm under a certain load. Tried the higher octane fuel, and retarded the timing. I guess it's time to pull the valve cover.

Since I'm getting a 2000ish neon for uber-cheap, I think I'll drive it for a bit, and park my firebird in my grandmas garage, and start tearing into it.

Anywho, if yall have any suggestion on the engine problems, let me know. I'll probably start by adding a new ground cable, check the o2, do a vac leak search with carb cleaner again, and maybe add a new ign control module. Other standard tune up things too.

I should get the megasquirt while I'm doing all this.

Re: brake, suspension, mileage, etc, woes....

thats some pretty bad stuff. i know some cars will do this though, everything goes to hell at once. you should obviously replace your front brakes. and put a new fuel filter on if your looking for tune up stuff (their like $10, so don't worry too much about price).
