88 bird with some issues

I just bought this car for 700$ and it has a 3.4 swap and a 700r4 and granted the last owner was not very good with mechanic work he tried and failed. I am just running the issues by everyone in a list and feel free to give me some feed back since the closest to this car I have worked on is my Fiero.

Idles at 2000
stalls if it sits at a stop to long
clunking sound from transmission well only when hitting brakes
hard brake pedal on and off
gas guage doesn't work
guage lights don't work
and its running a bit rich with a random egr code

any advice is good advice and I will be fixing these issues over the next week.

Re: 88 bird with some issues

has someone set the idle at 2k cause it stalls all the time ? have you readjusted the throttle stop to see if you can get the idle down??
ok so 3.4 swap, but running which injection system and which intake setup??

Re: 88 bird with some issues

well it has the 2.8 intake (horrible air flow) because I guess they were lazy and he said he messed with the idle but it shouldn't be running this rich because Fiero guys with 3.4's with the fiero 2.8 intake son't run this rich. The stalling I guess is the vacume lines and the is also the reason for the brakes being hard.

Re: 88 bird with some issues

Fix any vaccum leaks and get the idle set right. That should take care of some of the problems that you are having.

Re: 88 bird with some issues

Ok so I have fixed the dash lights with a quick fix but the dash lights were getting no power to them so I rewired them. I started replacing vacume lines and readjusted idle and it seems to run fine but I still have my doubts untill I replace all the intake gaskets and clean everything. While I have the intake off I am going to just port and polish the TB and upper and middle intake and maybe the lower but thats trivial because the lower is usually the best flowing of the three. I am also going to be replacing the intake with a custom air box and a free flowing setup. I am going to be doing about everything but aluminum heads and pistons and I am even considering a custom intake.
