June 18, 2008 R.I.P my camaro

roughly about 200k miles on it,
my car started making this HUGE grinding noise,
thank god it wasn't on the freeway but it got so bad and loud within less than 10second that I got so scared and pulled over, and had it towed to gf's house.

sounds like either my timing chain or Tranny is shot.. and at this point there's no way I can afford either of these repairs.
I spent total of almost 6k$ for all these non-mechanical upgrade(door hinge, swaybars, SFC etc etc)
It is far from being a 'junk' car.. but I think I must get rid of them for some cash since I can't leave it there at my gf's for too long and it will cost me about 300$ just to tow it back to my house.

I kept all the receipt for all the ugprades I did but the only internal thats been replaced is the lifters so the engine is still old.
I just called picknpull for a quote and they said they'll give me 300$.

I really do need to get rid of the car because of shortage in cash but I just dont want to for 300$.. but I don't think I can part it out and get that much cash as our gas is going crazy, no1 even might wanna buy em.
Ive had the car on craiglist while it was still running but I had no luck either,

any1 know of a good place to sell non running car in north cali?

I know this isnt the right section to ask.. but Im really sad my car let me down in my worst financial time

You can part the car out and make more than $300. You may try selling it yourself for a grand since you know its either the engine or tranny.

I would at least try finding out what is wrong with your car before selling it. It could just end up being something cheap.

Don't let it go to the crusher. Atleast find a buyer for your suspension upgrades.

Re: June 18, 2008 R.I.P my camaro

hate to see ya lose the car,but dont send it to the scrapper u can get back alot more by parting it out.

but before u do i would atleast try to pinpoint the exact problem,it may not be as bad as u think,i highly dowbt the timming chain, they usually just strecth or break and if its broke its just not gonna run, take the accesory belt off and start it up, does it make the noise only when moving, or even when parked and running, a used trans canbe had for 100$'s and its not to bad to put in on jackstands. i would look to the trans/rear for the noise

Re: June 18, 2008 R.I.P my camaro

hey thanks guys,
I would part it out but the car is stuck at my gf's apartment parking lot,
where working on car is prohibited,
and I live like 30miles away from there so to get it towed back to my garage alone is gonna cost me 200$+ and I got no friend with truck (

anyways, maybe it isn't the timing chain.. caz it does run
but the noise is SUPPPPER LOUD, as if the gears in my AT tranny's are just grinding or something.
noise remained the same in any tranny position.

my tranny was always slippery a bit in around 2nd gear so I dunno if that's it..

its really hard to sell those parts these days but i guess i should really try

Re: June 18, 2008 R.I.P my camaro

thx for the interests in parts guys.

the car sits in my gf's apartment parking lot for now,
where working on car is prohibited so when I get my friend's truck to get it towed back to my house I will part everything out a.s.a.p.

I can get the sound recorded later but being how LOUD it was(like seriously crazy loud)
and the sound was constant in any gear(AT trans)
I am thinking the repair is nothing near 'affordable' for me,
even if I fix the tranny or whatever the problem is I still have a very old engine and I have no horn, and every little things are going out after another
I have just made my decision to let them go as parts car.

I love camaro but I'd just like to come back to it later when I get more money to play around with it

so let me know if anybody's interested Im in Tracy (near bayarea North CA)
car has following parts semi-new in great condition all less than like 1.5yrs old:
BMR swaybars front&back, new bushing both BLUE color(discontinued color!)
BMR panhard bar, also discontinued BLUE coated
water pump
AC compressor (was damn expensive 500$)
diehard gold battery(less than 2month old.. sigh)
alternator
serpentine belt
grey cloth seat 25th anniversary MINT seats from 97 camaro
front bumper bra(mint)
hood insulation
headlight, side marker light all the front light is new and crystal clean

there's more but I'll stop for now.. and basically I got every little parts that any of you may need such as brackets here and there or throttle body etc and what not, just PM me and I'll PM you back.
Im NOT willing to ship anything that's big in size, sorry and cash in person only, and paypal only for shipping out. Thanks guys!

CRAP I'm in Tracy. . . But in a tight bind for cash right now. Just bought a digital camera. . . How soon do you plan on parting it all out? Wouldn't mind the battery. Maybe even the door panels if the interior matches. I might be able to scratch up some dough this weekend.

Sucks your Camaro went down on you though.

Dude, I would hate to see a car that is kept nicely get parted out. You need to get it towed somewhere you can work on it. A bad alternator or other accessories can make some serious noise...Ive seen it in my truck...They can sound really bad. $70 and you may be able to have nice car again. You have honestly put so much in the car...after putting 6k into the car it would be a big loss to part it out. You NEED to find out what is wrong with the car before parting it. If it is the trans or motor then you may have to consider it a loss, but honestly i doubt it. If you need any help troubleshooting online I would gladly help to the best of my ability in order to keep a nice 3rd gen from getting hacked up, as i'm sure there are many others who will help walk you through anything.

Re: June 18, 2008 R.I.P my camaro

sry i didnt even realize ppl responded here,
anything to do with buying parts, plz PM me!!

at this point I do have 1 guy wanting to buy the whole car and he even can tow it away for me to save some trouble.

I do want to make as much as I can out of parting it out so its either he takes the whole car with decent offer or I am parting this whole thing out.

[quote=sogabe]

heres the pic btw.. it was taken on a cloudy day so its actually little lighter in color.
as far as accessories making noise I highly doubt it caz its REALLY loud and sounds metallic.
Either way its kinda high mileage and I want a new car thats stickshift anyways, plz PM me for any interest.
