EST engaged/disengaged

I set the timing a few a days ago back at 10* from god knows where it was before (thanks to a loose dizzy hold down.). My question is concerning the EST bypass. On the hood instructions it said to disconnect it, time it, then reconnect it. I did all of this then I was curious so I checked the timing after plugging the wire back in. The timing was about a half an inch above the last timing notch. I take it this isn't normal for idle. Any possible causes for this?

Re: EST engaged/disengaged

If you rechecked the timing after you reconnected the EST bypass, then that's normal. That's the ECM controlling the timing at idle, not the base setting used in a failure of the system.
However, if you can't set the timing because it all of a sudden jumps to the advanced position (without the bypass reconnected or having moved the dizzy at all), then you have a problem with the module (I still have that module as a backup because it DOES work, but it's kind of screwy).

Re: EST engaged/disengaged

Alright. So the base idle setting while in bypass will not be the same as the idle setting while the computer is controlling it.

Ok, looks as if everything is working nicely then. Thanks a bunch.
