ALDL Software

I am waiting on an ALDL cable and I am looking for input on what the V6 crowd is using for monitoring software. Any input would be greatly appreciated since dealing with a computer controlled motor. I'm an old school V8 guy. Thanks in advance.

Re: ALDL Software

Is there setup that needs to be done, or is it pretty much plug and play? I'm very computer literate, just and ECM nubie.

Re: ALDL Software

You need to make sure you get the right definition file (ADX, I believe, not sure which ADX ATM... XDF is the tuning definition for opening the chip files), otherwise the RT won't know what's going on with the computer code. Also, you will need to consult the cable's instructions as to the proper setup for the slow baud rate.

There is also WinALDL, but it's getting hard to come by. If you do manage to get it, I'd set it up for the "1986 2.8L MPFI" and still set the cable for the slower baud rate (jumper sets a resistor combination in the cable to get the ECM to send data packets).

Re: ALDL Software

you can still d/l winaldl from www.aldlcable.com , thats where i got it from but it doesnt support my ecm so i cant help you much with set up. tuner pro RT has most of the file definitions on there site as well. someone will have to chim in that has an older ecm

Re: ALDL Software

I used win ALDL on mine, buying a cable is a good idea, building them sucks when ya don't know why it won't work. Had to build 2 to get 1 good one.
