Squeaking Noise

Hey Ive got an 88' 2.8L Camaro.
The other day when I started it up I noticed a little squeaking noise under the hood. I popped the hood and couldnt exactly pinpoint the noise but im pretty sure its the fan belt.
The weird thing about it is the squeaking stops after its been ran for a while. Whether its in park, neutral, reverse or drive it still squeaks at idle speed.
Its annoying as hell and can be embarassing.
Ive heard maybe belt replacment or some fan belt lube? I dont know
Thanks

Re: Squeaking Noise

If it goes away after a while, but still squeaks at idle, it's probably a bearing- either from the water pump, power steering pump, alternator.

To see if the belt needs to be replaced, look at your tensioner for the max/min arrows; the arrow for the belt should be between the "min" and "max" arrows. If it's at an edge, then yes, the belt is too loose and should be replaced.

But my guess is a bad water pump. Are you leaking coolant?
