A friend just got a 96 TA...

Is there anything I can do to my 6 so I can kick his tail?? Out of all my best friends, I had the fastest car, now I'm #2. Is it true that he has 350 horses? Help! I wanna beat him with a 6, so that rules out putting in an 8. would nitrous be the biggest bang for the buck or what?? What to do, what to do.

well, no i don't think he has 350hp, because stock not even the newest firebirds have 350. He might be pushing 285 or so. And there's really no way you're going to beat that car with your six unless some things happen like 2 of his cylinders crack, his heads fly off, his wheel pops off, etc. NOw, bang for the buck, i'd say nitrous is gonna be your best bet for power, but unfortuantely a 2.8L/3.1L can only withstand mild hp ratings on nitrous, such as 50-75hp shots. Youd need about 150hp shot to put you in his territory, and you'll also need a complete bottom end rebuild to do that. sorry dude, just settle with being second place, and do what you can to make your v6 faster, but don't expect to blow his doors off anytime in the near future.

Turbo Charge with a POSI and you will be equal if not ahead. But other than that you will prolly never blow his doors off.

The 96 LT1 gets a rating of 275 hp.

They made around 250-260hp to the wheels..

The 00 LS1 gets a rating of 325hp.

They made around 315-325 hp to the wheels

Ya can't beat him, but you can shock him... His car will have traction issues cause of all that power so what ya need to do is make your power move you. I would get 3.73's and a posi, but I really would get personally 4.10's and a locker and a 75HP NOS kit. That would make you run a very close 0-60 time with him, enough to make him think, darn that is one fast old 6. Winning isn't everything sometimes you gain more respect by just hangin there bighting at his rear tires.

Well, it was a thought. I guess I'm gonna have to brek his heart and tell him he doesn't have 350hp I have no idea where he got that idea. Hey everyone, I think I may have found a roots type supercharger for our cars! If you happen to see this before I post the link, I'll be right back so hang on. Thanks for the insight Brian. I never though of it that way. I could at least keep up with him. I personally don't think he knows how to get off the line without roasting the tires. I think he would just put it to the floor and sit there and spin 'em. That would give me a little advantage. This could be interesting, when I get the money

Here is the link to the place where I found it, a bunch of good stuff here http://www.s-series.org/htm/performance/60degree.php

This is the place that makes the supercharger http://members.home.net/***eolsuperchargers/

You have to email them for pricing, but it seems cool.

Sorry, the letters that are crossed out are an "f", an "a", and a "g". see how that works.

I'd just be happy to be #2! It's almost like getting beat by a Acura VTEC... the cars are completely different so a comparison doesn't mean that much.

Correction, it's a 98 TA. I got a reply from the supercharger guy. They make a kit for a 2.8 TBI S-10 for $1500. If you want a copy of the email let me know. pita_j@hotmail.com I wonder if that would still work for us. Hmmmmmmmm....
