Car: 1984 Camaro
Engine: V6
Transmission: 700 R4
Advice Appreciated
As most of you know I own a 1984 Camaro with a 2.8 motor. I thought that my fan clutch was going bad put after taking it off it still seems tight in fact it was tighter than the new one. (I put the old one back on) I having been thinking about replacing the fan clutch setup with an electric fan I know where there is another V6 Camaro with the setup so everything would be an orginial swap. What is the general opinon of doing this? I know that I can still run into trouble with worn out sending units etc.

Transmission: 6-speed & 5 speed
Run a cooling fan switch to ground a relay that provides power to run the fan so you dont have to manually operate it. Someone probably makes an electrical kit to do that.

If the clutch is working, keep it on. As for gaining hp, the purpose of the clutch is to disengage either at a certain rpm or temperature (engaged at low speeds,usaly idle & loosen as rpm go up, and disengaged at highway speeds), thus no longerusing any power from the engine. On vehicles that cam w/out clutch fans, have overheating problems in around town driving, or when doing an engine swap and little clearence is to had is when you should think about putting in an electric fan.

I'd move to electric, too. Any 85-up f-body will have the electric fan. Grab the fan switch (temp) from the rear of the passenger side head. It's got a one-wire hookup; when the temp is reached, the sensor is grounded- and could complete a relay circuit.
