Got the turbo today

Yup the tripple K mercedes beast finally got here today. And I must say its a BEAUTIFUL thing. I took off some exhaust extensions to have it more managable and lighter. But its a beautiful thing none the less.. can't wait till this weekend and start making something to mount her up with.

Yes is has an external waste gate actually. With a pretty bolt on a diaphram for adjusting Boost pressures.

I went and got some 1/4" steel to make the flange out of, along with some 18Ga steel to make the Y pipe connector with.

The blow off valave is REQUIRED for manual cars, the timer is REQUIRED for ALL turbo equiped cars, and the intercooler WILL eventually find its way in there.

What do you plan on doing for tuning, rear end, tranny, custom chip, and intercooler?

btw you dont have to have a turbo timer. If you run it hard just dont shut the engine off while it is still hot.

Oh yea another thing, might wanna find out the specs on that turbo and make you or buy you a manual boost controler and make sure you dont over boost it. And what about the waste gate?

I could keep going....

What size turbo? Dont just go out and buy the first intercooler you come across either. And dont get the stock one off of that car!!!!!

Yeah monkie you need sleep. And yes i know all the things you just said. remeber I know quite alot about turbos...

Anyway as posted earlier it has an adjustable waste gate. And as far as the turbo timer, I am tring to fond a cheap one, if not that just means I cannot go alot of boost(max around 5-6) But thats all I am going anyway. So thats no real biggie. What is a biggies is that I NEED a blow off valve cause I have the 5 speed. Thats something not alot of peps know about. Then they blow thier turbo to shreads.

And as far as the intercooler iu am looking at is a universal spearco that measures 14(H) 20(W) and 3(D) and has 3 " in/out. My price is about 750 bucks... But I plan on talking about that with the guy... Afteral thats a big sale.

The tuning factor will not big that big untill I get the engine rebuilt. Cause then I will be running ALOT more boost(closer to 19-20) and I have alot of ideas on getthe the Comp ratio down to a more civilized number for a turbo application. Like 7-7.5:1. Though I do plan on getting a FMU, which will raise fuel pressure with boost PSI adn not have the computer confused and going :lala: :lala:

Right now I beleive the turbo is siting at 5-6 PSI at a "stock" setting. And I will basically be using prebends from lowes to make the Y pipe-turbo flange and weld them up. Though tis will sound pretty damn mean untill I get the exhaust outlet plugged back into the regular exhaust!.

Anyway I hope that answered a few ???? for ya.

i just think for the 6-8 psi a cheap FMU might just handle it ... do we still need to get a chip made for that??

You will need a chip for anything having to do with this. I think 5-6psi is sorry. :nono: If I were you I would take the engine out, rebuild it so you dont hurt any parts with this extra power and get you some forged internals. (maybe they make them for the 3.4L? ) While that is going on get the intercooler (you dont need a front mount with low boost like that). And what about the radiator and fuel system?

Ok Monkie... for the last time this is a quick patch/plug in that I will do untill I can get my OTHER CAMARO swapped to CARB from TBI. Once that is done then I can yank out the engine of my daily driver and rebuild it. And I will also build it to take more then "the sorry 5-6 PSI". I do not mean to ... flame or anything but JESUS CRIST MAN I know alot more about turbos then most people on this board. And Yes I DO KNOW WHAT I AM DOING AND I AM ESTIAMATING THAT EVEN AT 5-7 PSI I WILL GAIN 50-60 HP.
The speed density system that is in 90-up camaros can handle a simple low boost mod like this. HOWEVER yes I do plan on buying a cheap FMU to boost the fuel PSI as the boost PSI goes up. YES I plan on getting a turbo timer, or build one myself. YES I plan on having a blow off valve. YES after I do the rebuild and have the engine more then capable of pushing alot more boost THEN I WILL BURN A CUSTOM CHIP.

Monkie at this point I could honestly care less. Do what you want. I think you simply did not read what I have posted many a time on the boards speaking about turbos, and you simply thought I did not know anything about getting one set up, and set up right. Well I do. I know alot about these damn hairdriers. Thats all I have to say. When I get started on the project I plan on making a tech article about it. taking lots of pics and getting good documentation.

And when you have low boost situations(like this at first) an intercooler is not needed as badly as if your pushing 16+. YES an intercooler will still be benificial, but for the 10-15 HP gain I would save my 700+ bucks...

You're gonna have to let me know how it all works out and how it runs when you get the whole thing up and running at full PSI, bud... Cause I've been wanting to put a turbo on my 3.1 since the first day I decided to keep her instead of selling her....and it'd be great to have a working blue-print...although I'm sure I'll have to find a different turbo similar to the Mercedes..how many used Mercedes turbochargers can there be floating around? And by the way..I am VERY interested in your headers. Anyone have them in their car yet? No offense to you and your work, but I'd like to see someone else do it first. Just tell me what you're asking and I'll let you know after I think things over whether I'll buy them or not. Don't bother doing any work or anything until I give you the thumbs up..I'd hate to see your time wasted if I decide against for some reason. I can wait...hell, I've waited 10 months already without a single mod. Lol.
