I just put a set of IROCs on my RS today, swapped the sway bars as well. Turns awesome, I currently have 245/50/16 tires, they need to be replaced soon. I'd like to make the car take corners better, and I'm working on getting all the components needed to do so. So, what would you guys suggest for tires that are good for everyday use, as well as the taking the car to the local auto-x course?

EDIT: If it makes a difference, I haven't gotten my 350 TPI swap done yet, still have the V6 in the car.

2nd EDIT: One last question while I'm thinking about it, if I installed a 4th gen rear, how does that affect the fitment of my IROCs?

If you like the current set of wheels, then forget the 4th gen rear. Sell it, and find a '90-'92 rear, if you must swap the rear.
For 245/50R16 choices, try www.tirerack.com, then search tires by size.

See, I want a rear that can handle say, 400HP for the few times I'll go out to the drag strip, but also want to be able to go around a road course. I've found the tire I want, a Falken 255/50/16. But I make just go with a set of Corvette Replicas. Not sure yet.

The ONLY differences between the '90-'92 rears and the '93-'97 rears are the ABS, which does you no good, and the later rear is 2" wider per side. None of the 4th gen rears are any stronger than the '90-'92 version.

I know that the rears are no stronger, my question was how would the LS1 rear affect my wheels.

A lot if it depends on - a) if your manual or auto and b) how you drive the car. Power output doesn't affect the life of the diff as much as one would think, its just that a ten bolt has less room for error than say a 9".

Road racing seldom destroys a rear end. Maybe the limited slip unit but that can be replaced.

The BW 9 bolts are a little less weak than the 10 bolts you suggested. More expensive to repair/rebuild tho.

I'll start with an auto, but eventually will switch to a T-56. I just want to build the car to be good at the auto-x course, and the strip.
