What happened to my wheel center cap?
This morning, I was backing my 1990 Firebird Formula out of my garage and it felt like I had a flat tire. The tire wasn't flat, and when I put it into drive to creep forward back into the garage, I felt another thump as if a tire was flat, and from the side-view mirror, I saw the center cap go flying down the driveway.
I don't really have any idea what happened...any ideas? The photos below show the left rear wheel (with center cap), the right rear wheel where it happened, and the pieces of it that I was able to collect from the driveway. It could be as obvious as the center cap (somehow) dislodged and I ran it over, but I wasn't sure if there was more cause for concern of more serious underlying problems.

Centercaps and trim rings have a tendency to make a run for it every now and then,I buy extras at swap meets and flea markets just because, can't have enough.

If you had new tires put on check to make sure your lugnuts are tight. the "flat tire" description scares me. If you ran it over coming back in then it was in front of the tire, which doesn't explain the flat tire feeling backing out.

If you haven't already done so, I'd check the rim for cracks, possibly radiating from one of the lug nut openings.

Huh, that's odd. It's a factory metal clip style too; not supposed to do that!
New sets of GM repro parts are cheap though
