Spare tire options in 2019

Re: Spare tire options in 2019
With an unused spare tire compartment, I can use the space to put some of the tools and parts I put in the trunk-well 25+ years ago and don't remember doing it!

Re: Spare tire options in 2019
Just a follow-up on this. I have the 92 Z28 so the original tires were 245/50ZR16. The size marked on the spare is 195/75 D15. I searched Tire Rack and the closest I could find was a 205/75R15. I ordered it, then a tech contacted me today to verify the application. I explained it was for a spare. He still felt that the tire would be too big for the wheel well. I cancelled the order. So I guess I'm back to looking for a used rim. Will a front wheel fit the rear too?
Years ago I went to Discount Tire for new tires. The manager came out and asked me if I realized the back rims were in front. I told him if they were, it was Discount (the same store) who installed them there because they were the only store that touched the tires. He didn't know what to say to that, so he just walked away. My point here is that if the manager was right, it must be possible to interchange the front with rear. I just don't know what effect it would have. If there is a driveability effect I didn't notice. In any case, this spare tire has really torn itself apart since inflating it a few weeks ago.

It is dangerous to attempt inflation of these old spares. I started to inflate the spare from my 1985 and it began to swell one side over the rim. If I had continued it would have blown apart (in my face). I have heard of people being killed by tires blowing apart so I stopped and got rid of it. A local tire shop found me one from a scrap yard car of some sort. 125/70D15 fits completely inflated in my spare tire place behind the rear quarter panel.
I'm not sure if it's a good idea to mount a tire that small on the rear with a limited slip, but it is there for emergencies only really.
