swapping engines
swapping engines
Ok, I have an 86 IrocZ with a 305 TPI. I want to swap this out with a 350 & throw my existing tpi setup on this. My question is what parts am I going to need to replace in order to put a 350 in my car? Am I going to need new heads, computer or what... Im just asking because I heard that alot of parts are the same for the 2 engines. Any help would be appreciated

You'll need bigger injectors, and a new PROM for the computer. You'll need a 350 knock sensor. If the 350 doesn't already have heads on it, you'll need those too. If you're going to modify the 350, and even if you don't, it'll be best to buy a custom PROM instead of just buying a stock or aftermarket generic L98 PROM.

Well I was looking into it today & I found a machine shop that my friends uncle knows people from(I think I said that right) & I was getting an estimate for a rebuild on my 305 & they said that they can put in a rebuilt 350 in for $1175...in exchange for my core I suppose. Does this sound legit to you guys?
Is $1175 a good price for a rebuild? What do you get for that price? What compression ratio? What crank, rods, and pistons? What do you want to do with it? If your talking a stock, reground, crank, stock rods, and cast pistons, that is fine. Small block
Chevys run forever on those specs, but if you want to turn higher rpms, or run a blower or nos you'll need a stronger bottom end. You need to know what you want to do
down the road, and specific details about what you will be getting in this engine rebuild.
