My dad custom made one out of angle iron for my camaro, with a removable insert, like the ones on trucks. JC whitney has hitches i beleive. As for tongue weight, I hauled around a 17 foot tracker pro 17 (total weight 1300 lbs) and it towed fine, aside from low ground clearence, stopping, and hills were cute trying to get up with the mighty LC1. I now tow with my moms blazer. Ironic thing is I got the trans am to "use as a tow vehicle mom, I need more power" and funny how there is no hitch on it.

Max trailer weight: 2000 lbs, max tongue weight: 200 lbs. I have a Draw-tite SportFrame hitch No. 24001. I really like it because it is a low-profile hitch. It uses a special rectangular hitch piece that the ball is monted on. This is inserted into the receiver and held with a vertically oriented pin and clip. It has a cool plastic cover that snaps onto the receiver when not in use. The unfortunate part is Draw-tite re-designed it to the conventional IMO ugly square-tube style receiver. Check with towing supply places or U-haul. I installed mine myself. No weldng req'd with this model. Just slip some nuts with a long tang into some holes in the frame along with some spacers. There was some drilling req'd though.
