what stall speed did you go to and what kind of gains did you see/feel? how does it make your car feel faster?

I've put in a Vigilante 2800 stall in a an otherwise stock (except for most boltons).
I've only been to the track once since its been in but my 60 fts went down to 1.79 (stock convertor was 1.95) and my ets were in the 13.90's (although we had a brutal headwind that day).

It's only slightly different on the street. Nothing that would bother you though. If you are going to do some drag racing with it you will definately want a t least drag radials.

With my stock convertor on street tires I never spun off the line. With this convertor in and drag radials sometimes traction is still an issue.

Bottom line-- this is a great mod although a little pricey its well worth it!

I was under the impression that you would not want to change your converter in a stock car. What is the peak torque RPM for a car like mine? Would a stall speed around 2200 be better than stock for me?

I put in a 2000 and it made all the differnce in the world. I only street race because there are no tracks around here but I noticed a huge difference. My car was put right into where it starts to turn on.

A convertor is one of the best mods to do to a stock motor. IMHO, a 2000 stall is a waste of time. Get at least a 2800 stall in a 10 inch converter.

The advertised peak torque on a L98 is 3200 rpm. For best acceleration, your converter should stall about 400 - 500 rpm short of peak torque. So a a true stall of 2800 rpm would be right on the money. However, if you can't swing the dough on a high stall converter, almost any aftermarket converter will be an improvement as the stock converter stalls at an absurdly low 1600 rpm. Any converter will multiply the input torque(sometimes as much as 3 times the input torque) until it reaches it's stall speed(hence the name "torque converter"). This is why auto tranny equipped cars launch so much harder than manuals(and at lower rpms to boot). But keep in mind that until the converter stalls, it is slipping and generating heat. The higher the stall speed, the more heat that is generated. So an upgrade to the tranny fluid cooling system should be figured into the cost of a new converter.
