rear end

I have an 86 iroc w/ 383 stroker, and i still have a stock rear end. 2.73 open. I need to upgrade to a posi with 3.73 gears. I am only 17, so i will not do this all by my self, any suggestions, tips pointers? I would like to go with after market axles, if i can afford them, which brand? I heard strange axles are good, what about moser? I have an extra stock 28 spline, and i was just planning on using that, but i really think with almost 400hp at the flywheel, that i might need something a little stronger. Thanks for any help!!

if your car is an '86...then you have 26-spline axles, which arent good for performance, especially 383s.

i couldnt tell if you knew that by your post, so sorry if i sound like an ***.

if you get a new differential, and new axles you will probly be fine...they should all match up. like a posi from SLP will be for 28-spline axles, then you can get a set of axles from moser engineering for $225.

you may also want to think about getting a haevy duty rear end cover also...it adds a lot of strength.

do you plan on running slicks? what about your suspension? if the car is gonna hook really well, you may want to think about c-clip eliminators, so you dont end up shooting a tire and axle and everything out the side of the car if you get too much traction...

I have a differential that came with the car. it is a new auburn unit, for 3.23 gears and up, but it is for 26 spline axles, which really sucks. Everyone tells me i should be using 28 spline. Will the rear end with the auburn differential and stock 26 spline axles hold up in my car? Should i sell my differential and get one that is made for 28 spline axles? What is my differential worth? How much are bearings and that stuff cost? It usually comes in a package right? Thanks for any help
