88 and 86 Hypertech chip...

Engine: 360 SBC 4Bolt / Bowtie Heads
Transmission: T5 NWC Manual
Axle/Gears: Torsen T2 / 3.23
88 and 86 Hypertech chip...
Hi. Anyone out there know if a Hypertech chip for '88 TPI 5Spd manual (Keylock security) will work with an '86 TPI firebird? I would think they would be similar but am not sure. Hoping someone with an in depth knowledge might know. Many thanks.

im not sure, but if you have the chip already, it isnt gonna hurt anything to try it. i dont see why it wouldnt work, all the VATS info is in the VATS module behind the dash on our cars, not the eeprom.
I've looked at the hypertech chips-usually all they do is increase the mph that the torque convertor locks up at, lowers the fan on temps, and at WOT slightly increases spark advance and injector pulse width. The 86 to 89 are all MAF "165" ecms and yes you can run code from any of those years.

There is VATS info in the eprom, but it didnt start until 89 for F-bodies.
