Shifter

I want to put in a aftermarket shifter in my 86 Trans Am to make it look cool, I was wondering which ones will fit?

Any suggestions?

B&M make a "console" Megashifter that fits thirdgens. Try doing a search on it.

The regular megashifter and the model right below it (forget the name just now) fit in the console with some modification, but the console shifter designed for the thirdgens fits best. All of these are from B&M. MSRP on the console megashifter is 159.99, megashifter is 149.99, the "T-handle" shifter (Thats what its called,I remember now )is 129.99.

The dual gate just makes it faster and easier to shift using your lower gears (1 and 2) in tandum with your normal or high gears (D and OD). Same objective that every other aftermarket shifter for our cars does. The one you want is up to you, try em out before you buy though. Some are fairly unstable feeling and slower to use, others are quick and firm.

Remember that the purpose of having these aftermarket shifters is so you can use your low range in a racing application, so if you are looking for speed, find the one that is the most comfortable and fastest for you.
