87 GTA performance?
87 GTA performance?
I just got an 87 GTA that is bone stock with 13,000 original miles. I believe they are rated at 210 Hsp with 340 lbs/torque. My plans for the performance of the car are to give it around 325 horse. Any suggestions on the cheapest way I can make this possible?
Also I have never seen the GTA with a ram air hood, Do you think this would be a good idea for this car?
Finally I am undecided on wheels, i need ideas.

:hail: How much did you pay for it? Man that is low *** miles. Which Ram Air hood are you talking about, I or II? I personally love the look of the Ram Air II hood on our year Firebirds. Looks agressive as hell

Definately start with exhaust from the headers to the tailpipe and
intake mods such as a cold air intake, air foil (off ebay), port your plenum and get some high flow runners. Add an AFPR and a custom prom (not off the shelf) and you should have a great start. -John

As far as headers go i have Edelbrock TES headers. They fit great for my application but they are only 1 5/8 inch headers. SLP makes 1 3/4 headers but a lot of people seem to have fitment issues with them. If you use the search button at the top of the page there should be more posts than you could ever read. Right now I have a 383 with a stock cat back
so I can't give too many recommendations on a cat back. Again try a search about this.; Generally people do mods such as.
1) cat back exhaust (flowmaster, hooker, edelbrock, borla etc)
2)Cold air intake
3)air foil
4) sub frame connectors
there are a lot of bolt on beginner mods and again searching these should give you a slew of information since these topics are well covered. Keep us posted.
P.S. my sister has a digital camera and when I go home for the summer i am finally gonna get some pictures of my car on the net.

Look at last months car craft, it has a good section on TPI build up, what to do in what order and stuff, pretty good article. you payed 7 for a GTA with 13,000 miles on it? or did you mean 130,000. Cause if its that low of miles, and you payed that, i hope you wore your little mask and gun cause you came out like a bandit.

if it was me, which its not, and i'm not telling you what to do, if the car is that nice, and that low of miles. I wouldnt touch it. I have a 89 T/A with 50,000 on it and I'm having a hard time convincing myself not to mod it, and its only a 305TBI car. On the flip side, I am not planning on selling the car.........ever or atleast for a long time, so I can do whatever with it. again, just my opinion, and you know what they say about those.

I agree with LilJay...Keep it looking perfect. Farthest I would go is little b/s mods like air foil and catback exhaust to make it sound mean. Other than that, I would leave it alone. Keep that car another 10 years, thats a perfect show car. Hell even NOW its a perfect show car.
I know a guy with an 87 (I think?) won our best of show at the statewide meet for fl-thirdgen.org. I don't remember it having much done to it at all, just gorgeous inside and out. Not the fastest car there, but it was absolutely gorgeous!!:hail:

Again, I'm not trying to tell you what to do because people liking different things is what makes this hobby so much fun. I'd think that bolt on mods aren't that big of deal as long as you kept the original parts, I guess the same thing could be said about the hood and wing. either way best of luck with your new car. sounds sweet.
