Best Performance Chip?
Best Performance Chip?
Is hypertech the best in performance chips? is swapping ECM's (cyclone) a better way to go? I have an ADS superchip, and I am not to sure I like the performance. Dose anyone else have an ADS Superchip? if so, what do you think?

The Syclone ECM is generally used for forced-induction applications, it has extra tables/maps to deal with boost. An ADS is the same as any off-the-shelf chip, its pretty much a stock chip that turns the fans on earlier.
It may slightly adjust the timing, but nothing that will really make a difference. What do you have for mods? Your best bet is to buy a custom EPROM made for your modifications.

Well, i bought a superchip and i noticed absolutley no results, the only thing it did was got rid of a small miss. I paid over 200 bucks for it, but i got my money back. i order one from TBI chips, but i havent got to install it yet. But ill let you know what i think about it when its done.

poke around on the prom board and figure out how to burn your own :-) u can improve upon the factory greatly since u dont have to tune for every concievable fool driving the car , only your style :-) Lots to be had with a good investment in time if u have the patience to learn....I laugh at aftermarket chips they sell now that i can compare them to stock .bins :-)

Check out ed wright. He can do one for your specific application (including mods), and all of his chips have part throttle tuning, which others don't.

Just my opinion but...
Burning your own is by far the BEST way to go.
A custom mail-order Ed Wright chip is probably a distant second. Custom chips are really expensive and are still not as accurate as one you'd do yourself.
Any off-the-shelf chip is really hit or miss. Some people claim it helps, but all of our cars are a little different. For most people they are a total waste of money. This includes ADS, Hypertech, Jet, SLP, etc.
If you're lucky you may be able to find a fellow 3rd genner to burn you one. (Although that could be hit or miss too.)
Personally, I think if you're not going to burn your own you should tune it as best you can manually. Either borrow a scan tool from someone or do multiple back to back runs at a track, or even use a G-tech. Just adjust the base timing(I think instructions are available on the tech article page). Also, get an adjustable fuel pressure regulator (Most people recommend Holley).
Just play with different base timing and fuel pressure settings until you get a combination that's faster than the rest, while still allowing the engine to start easily. You can use the search button to find recommended settings to start with. But you'll still want to adjust it to get it just right for your car. This option is by far better than off-the-shelf chips.
Sorry, I write a lot when I'm bored. Hope this all makes sense.
