906 Vortec Pro Action Heads

Anyone running the 906 Vortecs from Pro Action/Pro Topline. I have seen much about about other heads from Pro Topline but nothing on the 906 Vortec models. I know they have a thicker deck and improved cooling over the standard GM Vortecs. I hear about enhance flow but not sure how Pro Topline arrived at that "enhancement". Anyone seen flow numbers? I can get a set for a reasonable price and would like to hear from those whom might own a set or know someone who does. Thanks!!

redcamaro83,
Went ahead and purchased mine. $380 bare out of Yoder Racing. Figured they had to be at least as good as factory Vortecs and the extra deck surface allows me to mill to 62cc. The screw in studs didn't hurt either.

I am not sure. I will run them over to the head shop when they get in and let you know....better yet I will send an email to Yoder and find out. Good question. I will be running a .510 lift myself.

Here is a scan from the oct. 2003 Super Chevy, Joe Sherman Racing builds engines using slightly modified ProTopline Vortecs, this guy won the PHR engine masters challenge and won $75,000 doing it!!! Anyway these numbers look pretty good for a MILD cam, specs were not given.

Milling the heads to 62 isn't a big deal. most vortecs come through at 63cc anyway... so taking one CC off is barely touching it.

i'd like to see "mild porting" and a mild cam before i'd pay too much creedence to those numbers..

also the flow numbers on the bench vary from bench to bench.. as well as head to head so i woulnd't take it as "gospel" they seem a bit high on both hands.

I don't know what "mild porting" is either. I planned to follow the plan set by the experienced head porter that I deal with. He has prepped heads for record holders in various classes, so I trust his judgement....and he shows me the work performed and the flow reaction to the work. Other than some minor bowl work, Milodon Megaflow valves and a 30 degree back-cut, the intake will remain the same. I am interested in improving the exhaust side, which is where most of his time and my money will go.

The Sherminator figures gave creedance to the possibilities these heads can obtain. They should be fine for what I am using them for.

My 906 Pro Action, Pro Topline heads came in. Good news is the spring seats have already been enlarged for a 1 1/2" OD spring (as opposed to the 1 1/4" seat on stock Vortecs) and the guides have already been cut down to accomodate up to what I measure a .525 lift at the valve. I will verify that with the machinist next week. Bad news is the small things like deburring and removing metal filings from threaded areas was not done. And the increased deck thickness, while it will allow milling down to a 58cc chamber, unfortunately adds to the weight of these babies substantially!! I will post pictures of the build up if I can figure out how to decrease the size of the picture to fit thirdgen.org's requirements. Any assistance would be great!

I have a set of the Pro-Topline Vortec's and a set of GM Vortec's. The ports of the pro-topline's are way better than the gm ones. The guides bosses have already been streamlined in the ports. They are tapped for screw in studs already. The guide height is shorter. They are noticably heavier than my stock vortec's.
I just bought a set of edelbrock e-200's cause they were too good of a deal to pass up, so I'm selling my pro-topline vortec's.
I'm putting an ad in the classifieds for them.

I never used the pro-toplines they're still brand new in the box. The e-tec's will be on a totally different engine, so I can't really compare them to my gm vortec's either.

Both the topline's vortec's and gm 062 vortec's are for sale. Check the classifieds for details.
