A'Pexi Mufflers
A'Pexi Mufflers
Hey all, im putting in a new exhaust. I have a sponsorship with A'pexi (with my other car, but they said any car I own I can upgrade) Just wondering if anyone tried using Apexi exhaust mufflers for a thirdgen. Now these mufflers are generally for 4 and 6 cycle engines mostly but a duel exhaust setup on a V8 is essencially 2 v4's. Anyone know if it will sound good?....Or will it just be too loud....(Afterall these things make "big block sound from a small block")

Can you get them for free? If so, give it a try. Won't cost much to get them welded on. And if you don't like them go buy a well known system.
not free, but about 60 percent off, plus almost free labor for install, they have a bunch of different types of sound modifiers and silencers to "tune" it as you would like, you should check out the website.....dunno, my sponsoring shop (and in turn apexi) says they can do all kinda of stuff for me..

ok, first off.. there are no such things as "V 4s" (at least from my experience), and if anyone tells you that putting on two mufflers (a la dual exhaust) meant for 4cyl engines would simulate an exhaust for an 8 cyl, then I suggest that you stop listening to them.
a 3" exhaust is probably good for up to 400 hp.. I say, dump the Apexi substitutes, and just get something reputable (do a search to help you).
edit: correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't part of what makes an exhaust sound good, and work well is the ability to properly scavange and balance the exhaust pulses?

i respect your opinions age, altho, you sound a bit hostile, its just a question friend. All i wish to know is if anyone has ever tried?
V-4's do exist, its just rare. Inline is far more common, altho, what does that have to do with this post????
And if you take a look at the site these mufflers are tuneable.....
Normally i wouldnt consider it but at my prices it might be worth and shot, if it doesnt work out i can always return them and get almost all of my money back. (the store then sells them as "used" units to a honda or nissan guy at 70% and they still make a profit)
oh and by "big block sound" i mean, you see all the 1.3ltr honda's out there that sound like their pushing 500bph just from the muffler tone (altho i admit most just sound stupid!, im reffering to the very few that are tuned correctly!)
Crime against nature? well, could be....guess ill find out.

verv,
sorry if I sounded hostile; heck, I was gonna PM you to see if you could price a muffler for my firefly after I do the brakes & suspension. I wasn't trying to direct it towards you personally. I just didn't want your sponsors feeding you information that might be misleading (eg: the dual exhaust issue), because that really is BS if you ask me.

Dunno how well those mufflers will sound on a V8. I saw a 4thGen with two of them and what looked like a Pep Boys dual exhaust (under the axle
) It sounded like total krap. Of course, that car had so many SS badges on it(
), that it was
probably a V6 (3cyl per muffler)
On the question: "Do V-4's exist?"
Answer: Yes, they do. In the 50's and early 60's, Saab had a 2-Stroke V-4. Not a whole lot of those in the US, mind you.
There is also the SCAT V-4, which is basically the front half of an SBC, rendered in aluminum. Very popular with Desert Racing Buggies.

How about Power Effects mufflers? http://www.powereffects.com/ supposedly for Corvettes. Should be good for F-bods. Anyone tried these?

Age - No worries man, thanks for the info, and I probably wont be able to sell you one. There are lots of rules against that. I am supposed for personal use and for shows, not for reselling. Altho I can help you get sponsored yourself. PM me if you need anything.
SpeedCat86 - Ya i've had more then a single doubt. But we'll see.....The shop has never done anything like that either. Its sort of a "well we have seen some awsome sounding Imports, lets try a domestic" type of deal.
AGood2.8 - I suggest you email me about your request. We can make all the proper arrangements there. I tried to send you a PM and an email but you've disallowed it. Please email me. It's available to everyone through my username. I called and it did not go through.

not 100% sure...but I believe all volkswagen 4 cylinder engines are by the strictest since of the term acctually V-4s. From what I read a while back ago their 4 bangers are acctually two banks of two cylinders at a 15 degree offset from each other. When slapping to of them together as in the passat, etc. That is where they get there W-8 nomenclature from. So, there are indeed V-4's currently produced and sold here in the USA.

I have heard of an one or two people doing this type of thing. Mainly because they race in a class that requires mufflers and the import style mufflers were lighter weight than normal mufflers. I don't know how they sounded or anything else. Good luck.

that may be, but when VW designed the W8 for their cars, they literaly cut the bugatti engine in half. i doubt a V4 was in anyway used for the bugatti design.

I know its futile to keep this going but they do mention on VW's site that it is 2 or their V4's together...not a W16 hacked up. The W16 is 2 W8's bastardly hacked together.
http://www.vw.com/w8/index_f.htm
Click Engineering...then engine...then there it is.
lets not forget Bugatti is VW's punk now...so they are very related.
