The four banger issue...

It becomes distrubing to me hearing all the bad talk about the "rice burners." Why do we love our cars? It is something about the power, noise, performance, looks, etc. Isn't that what it's all about? The four banger guys are car guys too, and they help to keep the sport of sports cars alive. I am and always will be an American V8 guy, but let's give the other guys a break. So what if you loose to a four banger. That just shows that he is faster despite the massive difference in cubic inches. Give him some respect for kicking your tail with half the cylinders. It just means that you have work to do. There is no "cheating" in racing. The point of racing is to win, and have fun, right? The four banger crowd has a foothold in the performance car world and they have helped the sport. Did you notice that performance shops began popping up everywhere after the imports began to get popular? We even got two in Lubbock, Tx! I have noticed that the V8 guys and the import guys go off in there seperate groups at the drag strip, eyeing each other with scowling expressions. Is it because we feel threatened by the smaller cubic inch, imports from kicking our buts? Besides, isn't there a lot of satisfaction when you take down a tricked out import. If they weren't around, I think the sport would be less interesting.
I hope I did not anger anyone and I don't know if this post has a place on this board, but I felt it necessary.

I personally have nothing against them, if they know what they are talking about and are respectful back. But most of the guys I have met just talk $#!^ about american cars. They think if they put a wing on the back all of a sudden they thier car is so much better than anything America has ever built. They also don't seem to really know what they are talking about, they seem to take the ads as fact. "If the K&N ad says it ads 15 hp, I must have gotten at least that." Plus the fact the cars are usally ugly. I say again, the guys I have met who know what they are talking about, and show back equally respect I have no problem with. It is those guys who talk crap, lie about their performance, ect that most of us have a problem with.

The only reason he beat that one guy was because he had NOS. If that guy with the formula was to throw a NOS kit on his car he would have smoked him just as bad and more. I don't have a problem with ricers, well I kinda do, if they got them stuipd FART PIPES on their car with giant wings and a stereo system that sounds good on the outside, but when they drive by it sounds like the trunk is about to rattle off, then yeah, i don't like that and I think thats really gay. That doesn't mean I hate the guy driving it though, he just has issues.

Judging by some of the posted quarter mile times I've seen on this board, the only reason there is a hatred for the imports is because a lot of them are faster! Before we turbocharged our Neon (which now runs 10's with stock head and cams), we added an air intake and exhaust and ran 14.80's all day on slicks. No wonder you guys hate economy cars. SPRAY THAT BIG PIG V8!!
