Edelbrock SDT catback.
Edelbrock SDT catback.
Just bought the system, figured I'd give it a try. The catback only runs around $290, and in my opinion is well worth it. It's got a deep sound, and not too bad of a drone. Installation went much smoother than removal of the old system, everything clamped up and bolted up, no leaks, no problems. Only little problem was getting the tips on the tailpipes. I had to sand the inside of the tip a little to get them to fit right, but no big deal.

I'll be getting mine very soon, so that is very encouraging. Especially since that clip is of a 305.
Re: Edelbrock SDT catback.
Thanks. Yeah, I like it. What I like most is that it has a good sound to it, but doesn't sound like the everyday blowmaster that everyone and their dog has around here.

im not sure if my Edelbrock cat back is the same model but wait till ya put some build infront of that system. mine sounded pretty good then when i put my 10.41 comp 305 (480/480 210/220 112) motor W/headers my system REALLY came to life.
if you havent done headers yet that will greatly complement that good tone.

thats the setup i just bought off a member on tgo.

thats what it sounded like on 1meanz's car

I cant wait to rip off my new cars flowmaster rear kit and install this one. I like the whole "hidden tip" instead of massive 3inch chrome tips on a 84 trans am.

Re: Edelbrock SDT catback.
I have the Edelbrock SDT exhuast on my car and when i had a mild 350 and 700r4 i loved it. It had a nice deep mellow tone, but last year i changed the motor to something a little more aggressive and put a th-350 in the car and now i cant stand it.. I cruise at 2700 so its making some pretty good noise at that point and it feels like its beating my ear drums in. That prolly means im getting old, but just a word to the wise, the exhuast is pretty loud with a larger cam.

why do you think "everyone" uses flowmaster? cuz they have the best flow numbers, thats why, thats also the reason Edelbrock copied Flowmaster

Re: Edelbrock SDT catback.
sound is obviously a matter of opion, and ya, I did say flow and performance, cuz flow measured in just CFM is not the only factor in a performance exuast, there`s also pulse flow, meaning the one pulse actually helps create a "pull" to help pull the next one out. I like the "Rap" that flowmasters has, either way, go to carcfaft and look up the performance numbers, nuff said, still cant out perform them, cuz they can`t make a exact copy till the patent runs out!

I see that the magnaflow flows 35 more CFM than the flowmaster listed, well that just proves my point, I had magna flow on my car first and it sucked! it was a nite and day difference, the flowmaster could be felt in the seat of the pants, so I gave the magna to my friend and he put it on his z-24.

ummmm you said edelbrock stole flowmaster....so in that case edelbrock is flowmaster....and I see Magnaflow 372.8 / 332.5 tq and then I see Edelbrock Performer RPM 370.9 hp / 331.3 tq

I noticed that the flowmaster was the only system other than the magnaflow that did`nt list it`s model, or series, do you know what they used for the test cuz some flowmasters out perform other flowmasters!

No I do not....but then again Dynomax does sell different mufflers too...I am sure though that most street driven cars wont have a racing muffler on there...unless they are trying to attract attention to themselves
whatever the case may be, according to you edelbrock stole flowmasters technology so edelbrock's performance will be the same.....and therefore isnt the best flowing muffler....thank you and good night

Re: Edelbrock SDT catback.
also, another question is, was the test done on a car using duals or single? cuz that is a factor also, as we have singles and that would null and void that test as a comparison to our cars, also, was this a test of strictly mufflers, or whole systems? and I realize that were not talking race mufflers, but the 80 series womps all the other series made by flowmaster as far as perf. goes.

did`nt relly want to stand on a podium and say that flowmaster was nessicarily THE best, just wanted to say to that gentlemen whom was saying how great his Edlebrock was and how $h!tty flowmaster was, that imitation is the ultimate form of flattery, bashing was not instigated by me! it was started by the thread starter!

Re: Edelbrock SDT catback.
Most average thirdgen owners dont care about the flow numbers if you ask me the two most popular catbacks are the edelbrock and hooker both sound amazing and not like a shitty dumptruck like flowmaster. And as for flowmaster flowing so great a dynomax ultra flo muffler will outflow any of the chambered junkmaster mufflers
The car came with a flowmaster.....ewwwww made the 305 sounds like a pissed off weedeater under water!!!!!

Re: Edelbrock SDT catback.
When I got my car, it came with a stock (replacement) muffler. I changed it to a flowmaster 80 within 3 days of buying the car.
5 Years later, I took off the 80 and put on the RPM and sold the flowmaster on ebay.
Now, 2 yrs later, I love the RPM and cant wait until the L98 is in the car (will sound even more killer than with the LO3).
I didn't care about flow or performance, I just switched to the RPM based completely on the fact that I liked the tone better. The flowmaster was (a little) louder, but the RPM is deeper and has more of a true muscle car sound than the Flowmaster did.
I am not saying one is better than the other, it is just my personal preferance.

Re: Edelbrock SDT catback.
I am glad you like you Edlebrock. I would gladly try one of their mufflers on my car. Right now I have the single exit Flowmaster. I can't say I don't like it, and it sounded decent with the stock 305 TPI too, Though the factory muffler (stock from GM) was deaper sounding....and about the same volume (I actually was pulled over because of my factory exhaust, and it only had 30k on it at the time. The cop didn't believe me, so I suggested he crawl under the car and look at the GM part number on the muffler!). Anyways, now that I am running headers and a motor with some power, I would like to find something more quite. Anyone have any ideas on a muffler I can swap in?

There may be others also, but Dynomax is the most mellow that I have heard
