I'm looking into buying a cam for a 350 with stock heads, edelbrock intake manifold, edelbrock 650 carb, hooker headers, flowmaster exhaust. I will be using this in my 83 Z28 daily driver which i will also be running at the strip. The lunati voodoo cam and lifter kit seemed like a good option. Does anybody have any info or advice or different cam that would be good?

I just ordered a new Voodoo roller cam for my 383. Theres no real magic in them over a comp or any other reputable brand I just have always liked lunati's stuff. They also make Voodoo roller rockers now and I ordered a set of those as well they are expensive but they are really beefy and made well.

I'd recommend the Lunati Voodoo 60101lk kit then. That is what I used in my 357 TPI - Voodoo - Dart - Hedmann Header - Flowmaster 80 setup. It gave me exactly the performance that I wanted in my daily driver. And it required very very little tuning in the ecm to get it perfect.

The 60101 is a step above stock yet it idles nicely and pulls about 19" vacuum at 900 RPMS but when I idle low around 600rpms it only pulls 16" of vacuum. I can get the mid 20's for mileage on the highway and mid teens in town with moderate driving. Usually average about 16-18 mpg (using fuel injection mostly city driving)

I ordered the Voodoo 60102lk kit which has .468/.489 lift, I hope that the cam doesnt have too much lift for the heads, i'm not sure if i'm running the 416 heads or the ones on the 350.have you ran it at a drag strip

I was actually considering going with the 60102 kit because of my upgraded heads but I buckled and went with the 60101. Plus I am running TPI which doesn't breath well past 5000 rpms anyways.


You might run into some trouble with valve float on the stock heads. I am unsure about how much lift the stock springs allow. I'm thinking that you would be maxing it out. The upgraded 350 springs I believe allow lift up to .525 max and IIRC the stock ones are around .480 max. More than likely you have the .480 springs. Not so good.

When I went with my kit, I purchased the recommened valve spring/retainer kit from lunati also due to the mean ramp rates of these cams.


I have not gone to the track yet, hopefully this spring i'll get out, but I can't get any traction with my street tires...spining off the line is crazy. Hoping for mid to low 13's if I can get some traction.

yea i got the recommended springs too, but thats it, i'm hearing that the trouble would be hitting the rocker arm against the retainer if its too much lift.

I think that will be my problem too, hoping for low 13's tho.

Not too sure about that problem. But i'm guessing that if you've got the springs that can handle the lift it should be OK.

*Edit* take that back, just read something about how your springs can handle the lift, but the seal to retainer distance might not be able to? Hmmm, Don't know much about that.

Also, anything over .480 lift you should put in screw-in studs.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but you expectations of low 13s with stock heads and that cam is not going to be realized. Maybe high 13s at best, or mid 13s with a tail wind.

I get low 13s with TrickFlow aluminum heads, a 218* dur & .500" lift CompCam roller cam setup, headers, and 3.73 gears. That yields me 310 RWHP (about 370HP flywheel).

Remember, adding more lift with heads that don't flow doesn't really help you that much.

My best time was with drag radials, but my 60-ft time still sucked at a 1.9 sec. I didn't want to go any higher than a 3500 RPM clutch dump with the stock 10-bolt and had a bog at that RPM. I tried once at 4000 RPM and it still bogged but not as bad which is when I had my best time at 13 flat. I would need to leave at 5000 to get a decent 1.5-1.6s 60-ft time and probably a high 12 pass.

With street tires, I could only manage a mid-high 13. My street tires were BFG KDW and they were useless off the line...that's with a 6-spd trans though. It might be more controllable with an auto trans if you pre-load the suspension.

was it close to pulling the tires off the ground with the radials? Did you have to worry about spinning at all with the radials, or did it just launch? What year is yours?
