i work at a parts store and i need a new distributor, and theres an accel piece on the shelf there and it seems pretty well built, i think its billet aluminum and i could get it for about 100 bucks, comes with module, mech. and vacuum advance kits, pickup and cap and rotor, and i was thinking about getting the accel super coil also, i could get it for about 35 bucks, and a set of the 300 race wires for about 50 bucks, just wanted to hear what people though of this setup, and any experiences, thanks guys!

i only run MSD or Blue Streak on my cap and rotor, but accel makes an good coil, i put the HEI super coil in my caddy and it light that thing up
im running an MSD coil on the camaro, MSD's coil is stronger, but an accel sure beat the hell out of an OEM replacement

I ran the accel distributer, cap, rotor, 8mm wires, and supercoil on my last camaro that had a ZZ4 in it and the only thing I didnt really car for was the wires so I switched over to msd wires but other than that I really liked the stuff.
I've been running their plug wires since the '70's on various cars and I've yet to have a problem with them.

search the threads on here about accel, if you aint running tpi or a modified motor its cool but ey, its your call, you'd be better off using ac delco
i have about a 325 or a 350 hp motor, and im planning on getting the distributor, coil, and wires, i can get all that for about 190, i think it would be sufficient on my combo, plus its a pretty good price

do not waste your money on Accel parts because they do not make anything but junk.
test the resistance between Accel wire and any other brand's wires, you will see that Accel has higher resistance compared to others.
Also do search on their injectors, coil, or anything they make and find out for yourself.
I hope this will help

Sometimes I laugh. When people have one bad experience, everything is junk. Thats how quadrajets got the bad rep, and a whole host of other parts. Like many of the above I have ran accel wires cap coil rotor, etc on many vehicles and never had a problem. I laugh when people suggest mallory over accel, when they are truly the same parts. Mr gasket owns and makes mallory, accel, lakewood, hayes, and jacobs electronics. They make some quality equipment. Like everyone though, they will turn out some junk. The distributor and whatnot is a good deal, jump on it. If you feel warm and fuzzy with different wires, go for it.

I am running a host of Accel products with no problems. I have a 300+ ignition box, 300+ wires, complete billet distributor, spark plugs, and injectors. I did have some problems with the early style injectors, but the new silver style have worked flawless.

i have 92 305 tbi and i upgraded to accel coil and wires... i installed it and went down the road and all i heard was backfire backfire backfire popping popping the harder i hit the gas... went and returned it for another one.. did the exact same thing.. POS MSD coil ran like a champ sec i installed.. some accel parts are ok.. but coils.. POS!!

Typicaly coils don't cause misfires, they either work or don't. I am willing to bet you got your plug wires crossed when you changed them. Plus the odds of getting two bad coils back to back are pretty slim.

I backfire backfire pop using accel cap rotor plugs and bosck +2's, I think the problem might lie in my coil which is factory.Originally Posted by Drone358

your problem is Boush , put them in the trash can and get A/C Delco Rapid Fires, i had the same issue with MSD parts and Boush
Boush and HEI do not mix

^my and others Boush storys^
BTW it runs alot better with the A/C delco's than it did with the autolights that were in it before the t/u and 150% BETTER than the boushs that are now in the landfill (and they were brand new)

Had good luck with Accel coils, caps, rotors, and wires. Had two Accel distributors that ran fine for 8K miles, then developed the backfire/misfire problem. The bushing/bearing is made of of soft metal, and wears out fast, causing the distributor shaft to wobble, which causes the engine to misfire and sometimes backfire. The bushings are replaceble. The Accel rep told me that they are not designed for street use, and will wear out faster than stock.

No i never changed my wires after i got my msd coil... trust me it was the coils.. pretty rediculous... ill never go back to accel with their coils.. didn't have a problem with anything else though... i even put my stock coil back on and it ran normal..lol but with accel, all it did was misfireOriginally Posted by jonarotz
