Im getting a set of 255 50 16" drag radials. Im wondering which brand is the better choice. The Mickey Thompsons are about $20 more each. Are they $40 better than the BFG's? I want the best performance for my 60' times. The car is driven on the street about 20 miles/week in only dry conditions.
My best 60' times on street radials are in the 1.95 - 2.05 second range. Any Ideas how much improvements i will see. I got some suspension mods done too. I have everything listed on my car link in my sig.
Anybody use both these brands?

 

I tried a set of 275 / 60 15 BFG drag radials a few years ago. They didn't seem to do alot for my car, and it had less power then than it does now. I will be getting a set of MT drag radials in the next week or so, and I will post the results.
By the way, those are good numbers for a stock L98, especially the mile-per-hour.

thanks. Im going to go with the MT's... My goal is to get into the 11's this summer. Im redoing the interior next winter, so it is completely gutted. I really put this thing on a diet. Its 3070 lbs w/o driver. It was 3550 when i ran the 12.3x It was kind of a fluke time because i have never dipped below 12.4 since (even with more mods)
Im thinking the Drag radials and diet will get me to the 11.99 zone.

 

What about NITTO 555R? Ive got a set or 275/40/R17s i like them alot, they grip real good, hope i didnt make it more complicated by throwing in a third choice lol

looks like I am going against the grain here, but I liked the BFG's a lot better than the pair of Mickey's I had. I had to get the Mickey's A LOT hotter to get them to hook, therefore they didn't last as long, and I didn't hook up as well as I did with the BFG's anyway.

 

The bfg's I had lasted a long time. the mickey's i just got don't wear much at all, to get them to hook you really have to smoke them up, and the wear wasn't that great. I'm going to go back to BFG's too because i like the tread pattern a little better too, goes with the BFG's i have on the front

 

if im only putting 400whp to the ground, and im not running a stall converter. Will the difference even be negligable? Im shooting for a 1.7 60' time.
BTW, what would .2 seconds quicker in 60' give me in my 1/4 mile ET??? Better than .2 right?

.2 seconds off your 60' time will give you anywhere from .2 seconds to .5 seconds off your 1/4 mile time.

I have had good luck with MT ET Streets.

 

yeah, i will be there. I want to race my truck too. I just bought an 03 silverado ss. Its a driver ticket, so im wondering if i can race my tow vehicle on the same admission hmmmmm.

i got the MT's mounted. They hook very well. Car seems to bog unless im at WOT (stock converter). Im running 33psi for the street, and it barely spins them. Whats a good psi for the track? 22psi???

 

I run mine down at 15 PSI.

 

Sorry to threadjack .....but,What are you considering a car that has any power.I need to get some dr`s but not sure which is best.I`ve heard what you`re refering to before,but I`ve also heard if you dont make enough power some slicks will slow you down.I`ve also heard the nittos last a while.I would just like a good all around tire but I want to get my 60`s down and more consistant.For my power level do I need something more than the nittos?Thanks.
