just ordered a chip......

ok i have a 1983 trans am, 305 bored 30 over, running 10:1 compression, over size cam. my choke wont operate correctly nor will my carburetor orperate right (the 4 barrells dont work right and i dont think the stock chip is helping it get the right fuel to air mix, cause it either wants to flood or starve) i just ordered a stage 2 jet chip. i have been having problems with my timing at wot and some computer related problems too i think. how hard are these chips to put in? and how much of a difference might i expect to see with the set up and issues i have?

none, your base settings have to be set correctly before you can upgrade your powertrain... if your timing is not setting correctly you may be in order for a new timing chain... if your carburetor is PMSing, then you have to find out why... perhaps your O2 sensor is due for a replacement, and or your carb is in need of an overhaul... that chip all it will do is give you a timing curve, not much more...

My current 305, I bored it to .040, with an Emission legal Hypertech chip... I had nothing but trouble with my Quadrajunk, at least when it came to emissions... car hauls a**... it's stored now cuz of emissions and a possible plugged Governor... some people swear this electronic carb is the answer, a god given gift... nobody that tried to adjust the carb could set it right, I used different units as well, and still it never ran right... you need to have your sensors and everything else in good running condition, because based off those readings the ECM controls how your engine runs....

Re: just ordered a chip......

That might explain it then, because i think some it was taken off or hasn't even worked since i have had the car (2004). Is there anyway i could just take the emissions stuff off without it messing up the computer? The only reason i ask is because like i said half of it dont work or just aint on there. I still think the person that had it before me did more to it than he cared to admit, cuz over the years i have been finding more and more stuff that had been done to it. like the fact that there is no governor or rev limiter on it (not sure if it ever came with one). Is it possible that after i get the new carb that i am going to that it may fix alot of my problems?
