b&m mega shifter on a 89 formula

b&m mega shifter on a 89 formula

it says on the b&m website that the console mega shifter won t fit the 88-92 formula does anyone know why or has anyone tried it in their formula and had success

I have done it, it can be done, it's just a tight fit. I had to clearance the console w/ a dremel tool. So b/c it isn't a simple bolt in, they say it won't fit, to avoid complaints. But it will if you have a little ability.

I agree w/Jed.. my '86 Firebird has the formula-like center console. The plate that B&M supplies is designed to "bolt into" the console. The older Firebirds had the square-type Camaro console, with star-type screws. The idea was to unscrew the old shift plate and screw the new one on- and that's not gonna happen with your console.

I used the B&M template and a cutting tip on a soldering gun to modify my console top. The holes for the screws were drilled very carefully, and I don't overtighten 'em.
