Blueprint 383 engine choices

I wanted to get everyones opinion on 2 Blueprint 383 engines. The first is a Vortec headed, roller cammed version the makes 420 HP and 440 TQ. Here is a link: http://www.jegs.com/p/Blueprint-Engi...97264/10002/-1

The second is an aluminum headed, flat tappet one that makes 420 HP and 450 TQ. Link: http://www.jegs.com/i/Blueprint-Engi...ductId=1197263

As for its intended use, it will be 100% street driven and then only on weekends. I am looking for a fun engine that will start every time I want it to for quite a while. I have no intentions of modding it any further, so I want to get it right this time. I like the idea of the roller cam, but also like the thought of aluminum heads. My guess is that I would not be able to tell the difference between the 2 of them from behind the wheel. I guess my question is what am i missing that would attribute to the difference in price. From a HP/dollar perspective the aluminum head engine wins by making the same power for $500 less.

What say ye??

Re: Blueprint 383 engine choices

I would get something with a roller cam, with the low quality of oil these days.

I would also go with a roller cam. I don't know if you have to have a 383 or if you would want a 350. I would check out year ones site there is a 350 ( Pn # CT350PC1) puts out just over 400 hp and 400 ft/lbs of tq for under $3000 ( Vortec heads knockoff Air gap manifold very similar in componets to the engine you were looking at). When looking to buy my engine a couple of years ago I read some negative things about blueprint AKA Marshall engines, so keep that in mind and do your research to see what you come up with. The engine that I had built puts out about 360 hp and 405 ft/ lbs of tq (UNCORRECTED @ the flywheel). The power is a huge gain over my old stock TBI 305. I am happy with the power ( the builder is a different story).

Check this page out for additional build ideas ( don't know how accurate the numbers are he tells you where some of them came from):
