sum-1102 or a sum-1103 cam plz help
im building a 305 to replace the old on thats in my 84 z28 bottom end has been rebuilt and is in great shape but ive been recommended the sum-1102 cam over the sum-1103 because my good friend and camaro guru isnt sure if the 1103 will cause any problems with running the stock computer.
this is kind of a budget build and im reusing some stock parts as in intake and quadrajet carb oh and the distiributer too. so i dont want to hear oh go buy this this this and this to make it this good...
will the sum-1103 cam work fine with my setup or will it give my problems hes used the sum-1102 cam personally so we know that will work fine. thats for your help i really appreciate it

Those are both mild mannered street cams that should work well for you. Did your '84 Z28 have the LG4 or L69 engine to begin with? What are the specs of the bottom end rebuild work that you have done so far?
Aside from some other component diffrences between the LG4 and L69 engines (intake, exhaust, etc.) the LG4 cars got dished pistons and the L69 engines got flat top pistons. Stock the LG4 had an 8.6:1 compression ratio and the L69's had a 9.5:1 compression ratio. The cam shafts were also different as the L69 had a cam that was very close to the L82 cam from the 350 for the Corvette. In most other respects they are pretty much the same. The L69 was a factory hot-rodded LG4 305 essentially. The sum of those changes account for the stock 40hp difference between the LG4 and L69 motors (150hp vs. 190hp respectively) but they had the same torque rating for 1984, 240 foot pounds of torque.
What are your goals for the car? 1102 cam sounds like it would work best with a motor that was rebuilt to stock LG4 specs with a lower compression ratio. The 1103 cam would be better matched to a higher compression motor like the L69.
What about the rest of your drivetrain, are you running a manual or automatic transmission? Also what gear ratio are you thinking of using? The other drivetrain components also have a big role in terms of what cam will work out best for you as well.
