accel corrected hei cap

i was going to try one of these accel(8141) corrected HEI cap on my z28 but the reviews online are either totally hate it or best thing ever made. no in between i like the way they look but that is not worth the $ 40 if it makes the motor run like crap.so i would think a few members have tried it.. all opinions are welcome

Re: accel corrected hei cap

I have used these corrected caps. The first one worked great. Like you, I enjoy the look of clean plug wires on the engine.

The second one I got was defective. 3 cylinders would not provide full spark. I tested the cap and had good continuity on all the posts. Upon very close inspection (after a 10 min of running the engine) I noticed arcing across wires not covered by the black resin/epoxy. I suspect that the exposed wires were robbing spark from the plugs.

If you get one of these caps, get it from a local store. Closely look under the cap for any exposed wires. If you do not see any, go ahead and give it a try. If you see any wires (insulated or not) move on to the next cap.

Re: accel corrected hei cap

I had just read the reviews, noticed folks talking about things shorting, misfiring, etc...Accel states in the instruction that "to use the provided shorter screws, so as not to damage the cap and create arcing"

Best of luck to you!
