BELDON IGNITION WIRES
? Have any of you guys use NAPPA BELDEN edge stock ignition wires and if so what was your experience?
reason I am asking is because I installed a new set of Beldens (stock 7 mm) on my IROC about 4 months ago and the I noticed a slight misfire that I was just diagnosing.. noticed that 5 of these wires were putting on quite a fireworks show-- all down the length of the wires to the plugs. These wires were all installed properly and none are rubbing or overheating against manifolds. No external damage appears....
Is it normal to see these wires light up in the dark at about 8 different point on the length of the wire? I don't recall seeing any previous brand sets having so many of these doing this with the car idling in the dark. I also have to state that when I first installed the set..I saw the coil wire arcing pretty bad.. so bad that I put on the old set's coil wire to cease the light show....

NO plug wire should be put'n on a light show, take them off and return for another set or refund.....
Re: BELDON IGNITION WIRES
Have to agree with Rob here. In fact, just get the refund, if you can. These are not the same Belden wires marketed years ago under the same part number. The originals were 8mm, made in USA, and quite costly, but worth every penny. I used nothing but those, beginning in 1989. I used them with SLP Tri-Y headers, and the boots were very close to the some of the primaries, with Brodix, then AFR. Never had one burn, or never had a problem like you're experiencing. When I sold the car last year, it had the same set on it from over 10 years ago. Really sad the way the quality has demised.

Re: BELDON IGNITION WIRES
thanks for the article.. the "Corona" effect. I thought it was a joke when i first opened it up because I LIVE IN CORONA- CA.. LOL
Seriously thats good info. The wires were installed "carefully".. no yanking and no hot manifold touching. I also used a little dielectric grease on both ends of the wire. In terms of any gobs of grease or dirt on the wire.. they are pretty much clean. Where you got me thinking is that some of the wires ARE touching ground frame--not rubbing as to damage them... My eye really opened when I first installed these right out of the box and noticed that the coil wire was displaying flashes in the dark... I replaced it with one of my 8 mm spares and the flash has ceased since. From my eyes... the "lights" are not blueish but whitish.. no snapping or noise.
I am going to return them and install a fresh set and this time BE 100% certain no grease, crossed wires or ground touching occurs... THEN we can acertain if this light show is remediated...

Re: BELDON IGNITION WIRES
tomorrow I will be exchanging the Belden wires for a set of new ones.. THIS TIME I am going to use 7 mm wire looms and be sure that no wire is touching ground ANYWHERE. I am also going to refrain from using the dielectric grease to contact any of the electrode directly... I suspect that some of the misfire may have been sloppy application of the grease on my part....
