Ebay non a/c heater box
I'm not trying to post a Ebay ad, but has anyone here purchased one of these?
Or is this possibly a thirdgen member?

UPDATE: I purchased this and have install pics in post 67.

Re: Ebay non a/c heater box
Thats interesting.
I have seen the factory one going for much less lately though.
Guess it might save a couple pounds.
I wonder if the fan running may stress it and or cause it to crack though?

Re: Ebay non a/c heater box
I dont know about it causing stress, but its possible. I would like to run my stock fan which this allows. I thought about buying a metal one and adding a spacer for the fan motor. I wonder if anyone has been successful using a spacer?

Re: Ebay non a/c heater box
I will rephrase my statement. I want to run a a/c blower motor (which I have) in a non a/c heater box. Both blower motors are considered stock, but the a/c one requires more depth than the non a/c housing allows. A spacer might be the ticket. If that is the case, I would happily purchase a stock metal non a/c heater box to refinish.
This ebay housing allows for the a/c blower motor.

Re: Ebay non a/c heater box
I see.
Though I am not sure the Ebay one does allow for the ac motor.
It says "allows use of factory fan and mounting hardware"
It would have to be thicker for the ac motor to fit, which may cause other issues, IDK.
I would bet this is an exact copy of the factory unit.

Sounds good. I noticed he just sells a few fiberglass items, this is the only camaro item he sells, I'd be suprised if he is here, but you never know.

Re: Ebay non a/c heater box
I asked if he had a installed pic, but he didn't have one. He did say that he had installed several himself an it worked great. I figure he made a mold for his own use or a customer and decided to run a batch. I will think on it for a few days unless I find a great deal on a metal one.

On a side note, You are doing what I have been thinking of doing. Changing back close to stock for more of a driver car. I may have to sell some of my parts. Would be nice to find a complete L98/700r4 with wiring harness locally in KY.

Re: Ebay non a/c heater box
Yeah, I picked up a 305/t-5 parts car, and took the wiring, tpi and t-5 stuff out of it.
Went to Terre haute to pick up the l98 block and heads from a member here.
Its amazing how few of these cars are left out in the scrapyards these days. Some pop up on CL but not many l98's anymore.
I'm collecting as many parts as I can right now. Bought a house and will be moving next month. Once I get settled in, I am going to tear into this car hard. I'll stat a re-build thread then.

Re: Ebay non a/c heater box
I thought about going t-5 since everyone is going t56, but being a auto car, I don't want to do that much changing. Someone had a 4l60 over on Kyhorsepower for $250. A good 700r4 with a small converter would make it more streetable even if I kept the carb. The TH350 with the 3500 converter is not too bad on the street. Im sure I could find someone local that would want to trade or buy my trans.

Re: Ebay non a/c heater box
After driving my 69 c10 with a muncie 4 speed everyday, I miss the manual gears!
I got the wholr car for $300. Sold $100 worth of parts off it, kept the harness, heat and ac stuff, tpi and t-5 and associated stuff, and still got $150 at the junkjard.
Oh yeah, and it had new spohn sfc's on it, cut them off and kept them.
If it wasn't for the great deal, I'd be going 700r4 again I'm sure.

Re: Ebay non a/c heater box
Maybe I can find a deal like that around London. I could sell my TH350, AFR heads, Crane Gold RR's, Draglites , RPM air-gap intake, Holley 750 Street HP, MSD Dist (and 6a box) Comp Extreme 282 cam and L98 bottom end. Should fetch a decent price.

Re: Ebay non a/c heater box
Those are some good parts, I would be interested in some of thosefor my 71 camaro, but I gotta get the 88 going first.
Its a buyers market now for sure tough, which is great for buying, not so much for selling!

Re: Ebay non a/c heater box
I would like to find a local trade on some wheels. My 15x3 and 15x8 with new tires to some c5, c6 or TT2 type wheels. Maybe 17" or 18".
My tires are almost new, the front still have the **** and the rear are Hoosier QTP's with maybe 15 runs on them. I have only driven it to the track and back a few times with almost no extra road miles. Probably 100 miles or less total.

Re: Ebay non a/c heater box
I just got a message from the maker of the heater box.
Dear xxxxxxxx
I looked into the thirdgen.org and saw your post. I have been running a fiberglass business for 8 years and have 7 different AC deletes plus many other parts that you can buy from npd, camaro central, Ausley Chevelle, Opgi, and soon Ecklers. We just started doing the third Gen in December and have sold quite a few. Camaro Central, and Ricks Camaro (Ecklers) will be selling them by the end of February . I usually only do wholesale, but have recently started selling on eBay myself .
- wghinc
I made a suggestion that he become a site sponsor or do a Group Purchase.

Wow...it's always my luck!
I just bought a non-AC stock box in November. Even though it's a mint one with the motor, that glass one looks real nice! I wonder if it really does give you more room to mount an MSD box though like the ad says....maybe I'm missing it, but I don't really see any particular "flat area" that would better accomidate it in the pics....

If you were about 2 hours away, I'd compare my factory box to this one when it came in.

This is a stock box to compare.
Looks like the attachment flange is not as wide. Also, it looks like it doent drop down as much and has a smoother looking transfer from the motor to the heater core entrance.

Oh, OK... Guess I didn't key in on that. Just wondering...seems like it'll be a tight fit with the MSD on top, but if it does fit, it'll look nice!

Please keep us updated... I really want to see if that box works good. Seems like all the boxes are gone on third gen... and I really need one bad.

Not sure if anybody noticed, but i just sold my 95 grand am and it looked as if the fan box would be a near replica of a a/c delete box for my firebird. I think its worth looking into, might save you a couple bucks... or at least a template to fabricate your own

I scored a factory steel heater box at a local pick a part for $15 complete with a good motor! Came back the following week with a buddy and got another one for his car.

Re: Ebay non a/c heater box
Yeah, I lucked out. There is a country junkyard near me that had 6 or 7 3rd gens. 3 of them had the heater boxes. We pulled all 3 but one was rusted out real bad. The one I got was nice, just going to bead blast it and paint it up nice. I plan on swapping it out when I am swapping in a new engine this summer.

Re: Ebay non a/c heater box
Well I ordered it Friday 15th and it arrived today the 20th. The box was marked National Parts Depot, Ocala FL.
I had to run home on lunch to check it out. First good news was the box was in excellent condition. I came in white gel coat and the finish is very nice. I will be painting it Semi-Gloss Black to match my firewall. I want to mock it up in white to get some good pics and should make for a nice contrast. I did lay it on a flat surface and the flange seem to be straight and level. I placed the blower motor/cage in the housing and it fit nice. It has the imprint for the vacuum hose fitting and the (triangle shaped sensor)<-- "brain fart, cant think of the name". Time to get out the drill and may Dremel tool.
There is a nice place on top for the MSD box to be mounted. I just have to remove my 6A box and the coil from the firewall. Then I need to find the correct bolts and I will get it mocked up and some pics.
Dont worry, I will get some pics of it before I start the install. Plus any measurement request.

I'm curious what the thickness is from the firewall mounting surface to the blower motor mounting surface is.

Not really an item I need, but I did notice you were local'ish. I have been wondering if I was ever going to come across anyone near me (I'm in Louisville and go to school in Terre Haute). Although I do have a 2nd roller I'm gonna be deleting the a/c on so I will have to look into something such as this.
Let me know if you are ever in Louisville and I can show you some of the local car shenanigans lol.

I want a factory IROC style hood in fiberglass! I'll sell my Jongbloed hood in a heart beat!

Re: Ebay non a/c heater box
I went home on lunch and got some measurements. The depth of the box to the fan mounting surface is 4 1/8 inches. The spot on top for the MSD box measures 3 1/2 in deep and 6 in long. Should be just enough.
I got a new battery charger for my camera, it arrived today. I will try and get some pics of it mocked up this weekend.

Eventually my car will get stock color paint, stripes and decals and stoc kiroc wheels again. Going to make it look as original as I can, I think.

Re: Ebay non a/c heater box
Yeah, I have done what I wanted to do with mine. Now I kinda would like to put it back to semi stock. EFI and overdrive with some new paint and 18" wheels.
I like the stock hood and the hi-rise spoiler. I would choose black, Candy Brandywine, or the Viper blue thats on it. Something like the viper candy with a white and gray hash mark on the fenders or side skirts.

I live in southern Indiana. Work in Jeffersonville, I can see Louisville from my desk. Drive my 71 camaro daily right now, till I get my third gen back on the road. Always looking to hang out with other car people. I created a group on Facebook, Southern Indiana Hot Rodders Association, to try and get people together.

My car came from a guy in cincy. He had an iron duke camaro that he swaped a v8 in, and mine was a parts car he had.
can't recall his username, but it had something to do with the iron duke. That was back in 2003.
I actually grew up in Hanover, in. Used to go to clubs in cincy back in the day.
