You must be getting v. excited now about yours
Thirdgens are one of the rare breeds that look great in white
Thanks Man. Having a tough time sleeping! LOL
I'm flying to Chicago next weekend end to see it at the Third Gen Expo! Then it's being trailered back to Hawks to finish before the Route 66 trip!
At least I'll get to spend some time with it )
1) Cool looking
2) Possibly extend engine life by lowering temps
3) Better handling at high speeds
Re: My new fully functioning, ultra- awesome IROC louvers
They swallowed too much water if the car was parked on an incline. Caused too many trips back to the dealer.

Those are low profile smooth finish. I have a hydro dipped set of ghost skulls I am going to bring to the third gen expo in Illinois next week and see how they look too

Thanks! And I'd love to sell you a set too Nice Car BTW!!
I'll have some more pics after the show next week including some good ones from under the hood showing the louvers with the under hood sound guard/felt cut out.
Re: My new fully functioning, ultra- awesome IROC louvers
MY GOD!!! THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU for making these seriously this idea has been kicked around for decades and several attempts were made at a functional set of hood louvers.. but these are IT. great work. they look outstanding. I dig the exposed rivets along the outside perimeter too. If I didn't have my glasstek hood and still had a factory-ish hood I would buy these in a heartbeat. I can't believe that people are complaining about the price tag.... seriously! Totally affordable and they appear to be a well designed and built product. Great work. Keep the photos coming!

Thanks so much! Just landed in Chicago for this weekends third gen expo! Meeting the IROCX project being trailered in from South Carolina (Hawks) for the show. Lots more pics coming this weekend! Follow us on www.facebook.com/IROCXproject to see the latest!
Thanks again for your ringing endorsement!! It means a lot!
Re: My new fully functioning, ultra- awesome IROC louvers
I like the look & function of your product . I can not help but wonder how they would look on a flat/RS style hood . has that been tried , did I miss it ? oh well , good looking item . cheers ...
Re: My new fully functioning, ultra- awesome IROC louvers
It hasn't been tried but I think since they're not very high, they would make an RS hood look like an IROC hood at first glance. But I'm just guessing.
Glad you like them!
Re: My new fully functioning, ultra- awesome IROC louvers
New pic of the hood with felt installed. Thrilled to have won first place in the Third Gen Expo Modified Division on the weekend! Wasn't expecting that!

Thanks Felix! They were very well received and have sold some since the show! Can't wait to watch the heat rise when I go through Arizona this summer on our Route 66 trip. I'll be posting pics from the coolest places at www.facebook.com/IROCXproject
Re: My new fully functioning, ultra- awesome IROC louvers
HI All,
Just wanted to let you know that due to an extreme lack of time (Due to my real job) I have available to the building, powder coating and shipping of these, I am not going to be offering the louvers for sale once the current inventory is depleted.
Re: My new fully functioning, ultra- awesome IROC louvers
Installed mine this past weekend! I didn't want to use stainless hardware, but it's all they had at lowes. Black oxide (and proper length) hardware is ordered and should be on this week. Also gotta rewax ....I'll post up my own review and multiple pics this weekend. In the meantime, BIG thumbs up to Kerry! Awesome job!!!!!!
BTW....after 20 mins cruising, then sitting in the sun in my driveway, outside temp at 91, and my autometer gauge showing about 195, heat was just rolling out of the louvers!!!!! 1/4" off the metal, my hand my HOT!!!!!!! I could stand it, but it was just rolling outta there!!!!!!!!
Re: My new fully functioning, ultra- awesome IROC louvers
That's the truth!!!! I assume while you're driving it's constantly in motion, but yeah, sitting there it had to just sit and bake that engine!!!! ...and I'll get pics up soon, but I want it to be fully complete. That hardware should be in any day.
Re: My new fully functioning, ultra- awesome IROC louvers
going to bookmark this thread so hopefully one day when I can afford them they will still be available. looks great. If washing came to be a concern for me I would just open the hood and cover the motor with a large trash bag so all the water goes down the sides away from electrics.
Re: My new fully functioning, ultra- awesome IROC louvers
We just installed these IROC style vents from Trackspec. The flat RS hood made it harder to know where the holes go. It was stressful to start cutting the hood! Take your time and measure a million times and it'll turnout fine. Lots of open space to let out a TON of heat! What a relief that it went good and we didn't ruin the hood!
Re: My new fully functioning, ultra- awesome IROC louvers
It's very rare for me to be impressed by any sort of bolt-on appearance item for any car, but I have to admit that those louvers are just about the slickest thing I've seen in a long time. And the fact that they're functional, and made of aluminum rather than plastic, takes them to another level altogether. If it weren't for the fact that I bought my IROC new in '86, and have kept it all-original all this time, I'd definitely have a set on there.
Re: My new fully functioning, ultra- awesome IROC louvers
Don't know how I missed this thread all these years, but thankfully someone re-posted to it back in August and when I saw it I immediately ordered Kerry's last set of low profile louvers. He shipped them promptly and they arrived well packaged. Very impressed with them as soon as I pulled them out of the box. Obviously well made, well designed. Installation was pretty straight-forward, although I found the following items very useful:
-Small drill press, drill, 9/64" drill bit, 4.5" angle grinder with cut-off wheel, fiberglass blanket to protect paint from grinder sparks, masking tape.
I used the drill press to drill out the new louver bolt holes to accept a 6-32 stainless steel screw (12 each louver). I painted the stainless screw heads black, then baked them for an hour or so in my house oven at about 400* to harden the paint. Removed the factory plastic louvers and used the included paper template to trace the shape with a sharpie on the hood, then masked and covered everything and cut the holes in the hood. I had to step back and build up the courage to chop my perfectly good factory Z28 hood, but it was worth it. With the holes cut I put the new louvers in place, marked the mounting holes, then drilled the hood. I used black paint to touch up the freshly exposed metal to it won't rust. Put the underhood insulation back in and cut it out, then mounted the new louvers. Entire job took 4-5 hours.
I love them! The engine noise is a little more noticeable, but not bad at all. I have driven it quite a bit in 90*+ days now, and I can't say the new vented louvers actually make any difference cooling the engine. I was surprised not to notice any difference, because the louvers get too hot to touch and they HAVE to be venting a lot of hot air that previously would have been trapped under the hood, especially when the engine shuts down. It also made no difference in my Edelbrock hot re-start / flooding, but that was no surprise.
I highly recommend these louvers, and major kudos to Kerry for producing them. I bought the last set though, so you guys better jump on the next batch!
Re: My new fully functioning, ultra- awesome IROC louvers
Trackspec are broken downwards reducing hood clearance and have 2 less louvers, not to mention the gaudy logo. You get what you pay for, buy the real thing. Camarolouvers.com ftw
Re: My new fully functioning, ultra- awesome IROC louvers
Well, to be fair, NEITHER option is the "REAL" thing. The REAL thing is non functioning plastic, or an actual IROC race car hood, though I don't know if they'd even fit on a production camaro!
The number of louvers I think is somewhat important, but I think having the louvers lean UPwards is HUGE, both in terms of underhood clearance, but almost more importantly to some of us, appearance. Always felt the tracspec louvers looked a little silly going down. ....and then the fact that an individual member/owner took the time to design and put up funding to have them made, to me.....is a slam dunk. No way I'm NOT going to support that effort. Plus, he did it first! Again, maybe that doesn't mean anything to some. Fair enough, that's everyone's choice to make. -but to me, all those things matter.
