My new fully functioning, ultra- awesome IROC louvers
I have been wanting to have the hood scoops/ louvers functional since I had my first IROC in 1990. It's such a shame that that cool look is just a fake in my opinion. Surely our cars should be more like Earnhart's
Kerry from www.camarolouvers.com has spent a lot of time creating custom CAD designed, coated grills. Having spoken to Kerry several times I was convinced my dreams had been answered.
It's a big deal forking out a lot of money and cutting your hood but nothing cool is easy
There are 2 choices 1) factory mimic at 15 degrees which is what I have and 2) aggressive at 25. Both available as textured or factory.
He is awesome to deal with and the product is fantastic. I have just picked up the car and I can't stop looking at it and to see the heat haze coming from the grills is super-cool. Enjoy!
Thanks Kerry, you're a star for making these.

I too would worry about being caught in the rain but it would be cool if they could make a cover that say snaps on top of them incase of freak rain.

Re: My new fully functioning, ultra- awesome IROC louvers
Thanks for the comments. If the car is moving, rain is not a problem. Any rain becomes steam on a stationary car. The only part of the motor worth worrying about is the distributor. I will probably put something over them if I am leaving the car outside for a few days through rain- which is a possibility once every 700 days...

I think these are excellent. If I could have a set that had a vacuum to open & close that would be the ultimate louver!

Re: My new fully functioning, ultra- awesome IROC louvers
I guess none of you have ever taken a hose to your engine before?
Why would it matter if you got caught in the rain? Did rain never splash up into the engine compartment before? It's not an air intake for the engine, & wouldn't much matter if it was - a little bit of water won't hurt your engine, they're made to be left out in the rain.
I like the look & the functionality, even better now with the trim plate on the underside.

That looks awesome man. Did they provide you a template to cut your hood, or did they do it for you ? I saw that you mentioned something about picking the car up..

Re: My new fully functioning, ultra- awesome IROC louvers
While I can't view the pictures at work, I am interested.
On my old WRX, it had vents on the side of the hood, then it had a metal piece with studs on the bottom with wingnuts. So when you are racing you remove the bottom piece, and have it vent air. During the winter, I would reinstall the bottom part to keep the water out. I would just fab a bottom part out of the piece of the hood I cut off so you can reinstall it.

Re: My new fully functioning, ultra- awesome IROC louvers
Looks outstanding
If it was my build I would have installed this under (fine mesh metal net)

to stop debree and other stuff from getting in to keep the enginebay clean, cause if it stands still wet leafs and other stuff could blown down there
and with that mesh under it still lets out all the hot air and it might also look cooler? just my thought about it,
Been thinking about something similar myself, and those pictures really made me think about it again, so maybe after the engine build/change it will happen.

Re: My new fully functioning, ultra- awesome IROC louvers
Those look awesome. If you could have the studs molded into the plastic so the bolts don't show on top and use a solenoid system to open and close them they would be perfect. They do look amazing and will be a huge help in aerodynamics to reduce front end lift at high speeds. Congrats.

Thanks. You could always epoxy them in but I ended up liking the machine-like utilitarian bolt look. I did think about the high speed lowering of pressure

I'm also happy to confirm that at speeds reaching the legal limit (ahem) the front does indeed feel way more planted. More induction noise and the heat that comes through the vent is obscene
Smitty- that's awesome news! Let us know on the trays.
I washed it yesterday and guess what the car started right up after with no problems at all

If they were cheaper than a replacement pair of original louvers, I'd be all over these. But at $400, pass..

Re: My new fully functioning, ultra- awesome IROC louvers
Ok so then let's see you re-design something from scratch, re-image an original concept, find someone to manufacture them, have them powder coated and produced.
Have you any idea how much time, effort and thought went into these?
I personally salute people like Kerry who get off their *** and allow lazy people like me to realise a dream.
If you factor in labour rates this makes much better sense and they are cheaper than the cheap plastic factory ones that just sit there

Re: My new fully functioning, ultra- awesome IROC louvers
In the 'Fun with Louvers" arena, in the next few days I'll post pics of our aluminum louvers that have been hydro dipped and have the following finishes:
Carbon Fiber (2 sets)
Skulls (1 set)
Ghost Skulls (1 set)
I'm thinking they're pretty mean looking
Check back here and at www.camarolouvers.com soon to see!

Hope to have pics up later today - tomorrow latest. The hydro-dipped sets have a gloss finish to add depth. Will go well with your new paint

OK - here they are! They're glossy (which is hard to tell from the pics)
This is kind of like customizing your customized louvers!

They are expensive ($150 extra on top of the $399) but for the few among us.... I may change mine out to the ghost skulls - they're really reaaaallly cool in person.

Okay, so i know this isnt the right thread for this, and its a touchy subject anyways.....but I bet most Firebird / Transam owners feel the same way...not big on the Camaros...lol I can remember having a girlfriend some 25 years ago that used to just LOVE her Formula her parents bought her, and would always talk crap about my 84 Camaro....till we raced. Not saying anything bad about Pontiac owners, or that Camaros are faster, no, just saying that each thinks his is better...LOL How do you think the name "Fire Chicken" came about? Some dude with a Camaro and a ****** with a beer in his hand named those cars....hehe

Okay, so now back on subject... The louvers are great looking! They remind me of the 82 models with functional louvers. I wish those were remade, as they opened when the car accelerated and closed back up on idle.....GM messed that one up by discontinuing those IMHO

Just got FIRST pics today of my project out of paint. Can just see the louvers from underneath. Hope to pick it up soon!
