Engine Support Bar
Has anyone used one of these? They are all 59'' long and seem like they may be a tad short, or could be just the way I'm measuring on my '89. Just looking to use it while pulling the trans.

Re: Engine Support Bar
One Man's opinion ;
I have never used such a device , the prime reason being that in order to remove & replace a transmission with the engine still in the car the engine will many times need it's back end lifted and or lowered to get just the right angle to push the transmission back onto it locating pins . This lifting and lowering ("jockeying" as it were) is best accomplished with a simple floor jack under the oil pan with the required small piece of wood to spread the load for the jack and keep the jack from crushing or otherwise marring the pan . Remember too , that the extreme engine angle required to remove the transmission requires the removal of at least the distributor cap & rotor as the clearance between it and the firewall disappears at the required engine angle .

Re: Engine Support Bar
I used one to support my LS when I removed my K member to work on it. very good for its intended use but you do not need one to do a transmission removal, as OrangeBird said it is not needed a jack and short length of 2X4 is fine to support the engine.

Re: Engine Support Bar
if you can find a friend or mechanic who will let you use/borrow/rent a Transmission Jack, that will work great. I used my neighbors several times and it is very helpful. It has ***** on it that you can turn to change the angle of the jack plate/trans fore and aft and left and right as you raise it up.
