Re: Tire recommendation
Go to Tirerack and choose the above size from the drop downs and you can get an idea of some of the offerings. There are not many anymore compared to even a few years ago, but you can get some choices based on what you after, looks, season, etc.

Re: Tire recommendation
Well, the only real sports performance tire option is from BFG and their G-force line or General and their G-Max. BFG offers 2 either a A/S or a summer only. All are W speed rated. And the General is a summer only.
Falken, Toyo, Hankook, and Cooper all make tires in the stock 245/50/16, But they they are not as good as either the BFG or General in my opinion. I also work at a high end tire shop and I have experience with all these specific tires. I personally run the BFG G-Force Sport Comp 2 tires on my Camaro.

Re: Tire recommendation
FWIW, I had the BFG A/S on my 90 Formula and didn't like them. I swapped out for the Generals and prefer their handling characteristics as well as the appearance compared to the BFG A/S. Can't comment on the BFG summer tire.

Re: Tire recommendation
Recently had a set of BFG Comp-2 A/S's on my '91 RS and loved them. Excellent tire all around other than treadwear, but treadwear wasn't terrible honestly. Only thing I really didn't like about them was the way they looked from the side -- tread blocks are so big that they almost look like an off road tire.
I now have a set of Riken Raptors (BFG's were on backorder this time), and I hate them. Wet traction is terrible compared to the BFGs.

Re: Tire recommendation
They aren't the most aesthetically pleasing tires, but the BFGs (Michelin) do perform really well. I only really considered those, General (Continental), and Cooper. There's not a huge number of choices.

Re: Tire recommendation
I also have the BFG G-Force Sport Comp 2 (summer only) tires on my 1987 IROC. I find the car handles very sharply with them. I rarely drive my car in the rain, but I did get caught one time in a heavy thunderstorm, and the wet weather performance seemed fine to me.

I have the BFG G Force Sport Comp 2 A/S. Though mine are 17’s I’ve been pleased with them. Quiet with crisp handling and clean looking sidewalls.

Re: Tire recommendation
Also have BFG G-Force Sport Comp 2's on my 91 RS. Picked 255/50R16's to get just a little more tire on the stock 16 x 8 wheels. 20,000+ miles no issues.
Very good tire overall, seems slightly noiser than the prior set of Toyo Proxies. Liked them well enough my 99 T/A also has BFG G-Force Sport Comp 2 as well.
