Has anyone used the leather wrap at the link below from redlinegoods.com? It appears the same is offered at The Camaro Store too. I have a 1986 IROC that could use new leather and I like this option instead of replacing the whole steering wheel IF it is a correct quality replacement. Would appreciate a review from anyone who has used one of these, thanks
Can't help you much because I'm in the same boat. I originally bought the materials from them with the intent of covering it myself. I recovered it years ago with a generic leather cover and the stitching looked great. It simply wrapped over the original leather. This time, I decided to bite the bullet and let them do it.
It really doesn't look that hard but I don't trust myself this time. If it starts to look bad I don't know how many times I'd be able to redo a stitch or even start over without it looking bad. It needs to be completely stripped and new padding installed this time.
How does the spokes look? Do they need repainted? I don't know if you have ever noticed on yours, but when I would clean the spokes, black residue would be left on the cloth. The original finish, whatever it is, is thin and fragile. I think I need to paint it with lacquer. It should have the proper sheen, and it's thin. It should fill the grooves without it piling up.
I’ve used the couple on eBay in Mi, they do the PT wheels for Chrysler, beautiful job, all done by hand, $185
i did a leather wrap,Y88 wheel, it was beautiful

Send your wheels here, and get them professionally redone.
I bought a vinyl wheel in good condition for my 91 TA so I could send my leather one out to be redone.
Well after a few months of thought I ordered the Redline leather wrap to install myself. The leather has slightly more texture than the seemingly smoother and thicker original but it looks and feels very nice to me. I found that the stitch pattern is different than the original; the new wrap has a sort of diamond pattern where the original is a series of Vs like a baseball. This is as seen in late model cars I have looked at but I doubt anyone will ever notice. The Redline order also offered optional foam padding for an extra $49 which I declined as I thought the original was not padded and this was probably a modern upgrade. Turns out the original did have a thin layer of foam over the hard rubber core and I probably should have replaced it but I find the new feel acceptable. The results are not perfect but that is likely more due to my install than the quality of the material and I am pleased. They offer (and encourage) their own installation service and I would say I probably spent 6 hours so it might not be a bad idea next time, Todd C
That doesn't look bad at all. I got the NAPPA leather. It's smoother, more like the original. Your stitching looks perfect. You weren't able to use the baseball stitch? When I wrapped my wheel years ago I was able to use that stitch.
Do you think the leather will start twisting like the factory did? I'm thinking the padding would help prevent that since it would wind up a little bit tighter of a wrap.
It looks like they didn't cut the pattern quite right since the side seams wound up slanted instead of straight across.

I think in daily use it might be possible to twist (as my original was) but in my hands it won't be a problem. If the seams are off it is more likely my fault then theirs, they were a tight fit with lots of pushing and pulling
Yeah, I know what you mean about the twisting. When mine started to twist I told my wife not to hold the wheel at the top. Then I told her to not push on the turn signal switch lettering because it was wearing off.
She wound up teasing me that, "I'm not allowed to touch anything on the car!"

Yes, my original owner was apparently like that too. My car has a clean original interior but the switch lettering is worn and my power window and hatch switches are completely blank as if there was never a symbol there
