Oil Pan Recommendations
Hello All,
Original Oil pan gasket is leaking and pan has some very bad rust spots. I am going to replace the gasket and pan. Are there any recommendations from those who have done this for aftermarket pans to go with? Moroso? Canton? Steel? Steel/zinc? Aluminum? Same 5qt size or larger capacity 6qt size? While doing this may go ahead and change oil pump and pick-up. Any recommendations or suggestions would be welcomed and greatly appreciated! Thank you, Dave

Re: Oil Pan Recommendations
If your engine is original, the passenger side dipstick kickout and 2pc. rear main seal dictate an 80-85 non-Vetre pan, which clears stock exhaust.

Re: Oil Pan Recommendations
im using the Canton roadrace pan. the only stumbling block i found was the original oil pan had doublers on the pan rails to act as a load spreader under the heads of the bolts, there was 2 doublers, one on either side. These did not work on the Canton pan as it was made with clearance for stroker cranks, making it a bit wider - this pushed the doublers out and away from the sides of the oil pan and causing the bolts to not thread into the block. i just didnt use them, the pan has been great. You will typically need the pickup that the manufacturer made to work with whatever pan you choose. HV and standard pumps have different heights, and SOME pumps have a 3/4" pickup tube and others have 5/8", make sure you know what you have before you buy - or just get a new pump to go with the pick up you choose and you will have no problems.
hope this helps

Re: Oil Pan Recommendations
Thanks RoadRace..This is very helpful! I think I'm going with a Canton stock size pan #15-010M and gasket and also new Melling M55 oil pump and Canton pickup #20-010. This should be a good replacement! I'm not looking forward to this job, but It's got to be done.
