autometer gauges

im going to get two ultra-lite autometer gauges. i want to know, whats the difference with a mechanical and electrical gauge?

i want to get a fuel pressure gauge and another too, didnt decide which one yet. why are the fuel pressure electric gauges so much more expensive than the other electric gauges? (according to my summit and jegs catalog)

thanks!

Mechanical guages measure actual temperatures and pressures directly by a mechanical means. This means that an oil pressure gauge uses a nylon pressure line that goes from a pressured oil supply to the gauge. An electrical guage has a pressure sensor similar to the stock sensor in your vehicle and only electrical signals are sent to the gauge. Electronic gauges give you the benefit of not running 60 psi of fuel or gas into your vehicle, but are affected by voltage changes like your stock gauges. The electrical gauges cost more because they usually include the sensor that converts a pressure to a signal your gauge can read. I personally mounted my mechanical Ultra-Lite fuel pressure gauge on my hood. I take a lot of crap for it, but it has saved my motor a few times. Once I get finished tuning, I may remove it. I run a mechanical oil pressure gauge inside the vehicle and have had no problems. I feel a little safer with oil in my car than 50 psi of gasoline. Good luck.
