MSD ignition

hey sorry to post here but i need info. i have a vette with a built 350 and i am tired of the old ignition. how many ponies do you think i could get out of it? and if no + on the HP would it help my throttle response? the 350 has 10:1 compression if that helps and timing is at 15 degrees. but im gonna have to check on that the next sunny day.

Plans for an LT-1 or LT-4,
dual flowmaster exaust,
& a pounding stereo.
mods right now include a radar detector.
New exaust! Best No $ mod ive done. Thanks to the Sawsall

I picked up a solid 10 to 15hp. My quarter mile times dropped 3 tenths when I had the 305. Other guys will tell you that it dosen't make any gains. It might have to do with the condition of your current ignition. The msd 6al also dropped my old mustangs et's by 3 tenths. It is definatily worth it.

"Edlebrock- (600cfm square bore, vac. advance dist- 11 degrees initial timing)
16.49s at 83.9mph
16.46s at 84.5mph
16.27s at 88.6mph

Quadrajet- (computer controlled, same dist, no change in timing)
15.48s at 95.2mph
15.42s at 94.7mph
15.32s at 98.6mph

The only change in the test was the carb. Yes, these computer controlled qjet times are with a rigged vac. advance dist. Does any one see a trend here? I am convinced that the Edelbrock carb is a waste of money. Don't get me wrong, I love other Edelbrock products. The engineers just need to go back on the drawing board on there square bore carb."


Chris I love your test and evaluation techniques. I'm sure nothing was wrong with your ignition or carburetors at all. I can see a bright future for you working with Hot-Rod magazine.

sweet, im gonna go ahead and get it then, what about coil, rotor, plugs and wires? should i buy a complete ignition system from msd? or like are accel plug wires better? oh and by the way im planning on having a 850-900cfm holley double pumper with the intake backfire protection plate thing.
