ps- sorry for the messed up post
Next time DON'T go to a place where you have a bunch
of 16-21 year olds who don't know jack about anything!
( not saying that 16-21 year olds are dumb, but I think
you understand what I mean)......
Want ads for lube shops reads: NO EXPERIENCE NEEDED!
NEVER trust Pep Boys, Wal Mart, Jiff Lube, etc. for
service. Only good for buying stuff, that's it! Some
may argue, but they screw up like 60% of the time,
that's the truth! I have seen it happen! A lot!
Stick with a known good service station or dealership.
They SHOULD have at least told you right up front that
they damaged your car, and they should have ate the
costs on labor AND should pay for the damages! That's
the least they can do! They are there to SERVE you! Not
to just make money! Well, some places are and just don't
care about customers. Sad, but true.
I am SO glad that I'm an Auto tech.
Never have to let/trust someone else work on my cars.

Ive worked at pep boys for a SHORT time in the past and when i did it was amazing! From the parts counter people to the repair people(some days it was the same people) When someone called for a part if they didnt feel like looking it up they'd send the person all of the parts in stock of the part they asked for , to days when it was busy they'd have drivers in the repair area working on customers cars! Now these guys couldnt even spell car much less work on one.Even now when i go into pepboys if i need some oil and i dont feel like driving far, i bought some 10 40 and the MANAGER (of all people
) over heard me talking to the person with me about my car said" a v6 firebird wont even start with 10 40 in it"
Before you know it pep boys will just be a Rlce burner accesories store!

And how exactly can you atempt judge the competency of someone you have never met? Please, that's the exact kind of response I would expect from a kid 16-21 that thinks they know it all. How predictable.

no age has nothing to do with it. how do you know the poor kid hasnt been building engines before he was old enough to drive? and if you knew everything about cars, you wouldnt need to bring your car to "pep boys" to begin with. hell, if you knew anything about cars you would know not to go to pep boys. if your going to bicker in a response, just save your energy for another time. i dont feel like fighing with someone on this board again.

I don't think 25 would constitute a teenager, and I have done ALL refits to my car, do a little research before you go winging that crapola around, ask around. My car is a completely different setup than the mess I bought it as.
Further, I don't have parents. If you want to be an internet bully and "meet up with you and we can have words", I'm game.

yes i did serve, im not a liar. and im far from a bully, i dont LIKE people calling me junior. im sure you wouldnt say that to me if you saw me, hence the reason why i said meet up. if you got the idea about a melee match, your mistaken. theres a reason why i ended up in the corps and i dont plan on making the same mistake 2x, if you see what im saying here. but if you want to meet at a track and battle it out there, then so be it. hope you got over 400hp.
one other thing, you should really watch what you say because you dont know how people are going to take it, trust me. i mouthed off to a MOD once and i never heard the end of it.

Hey Kontrax as far as Sears fixing our (pepboys) mistakes is really really hard to belive. It might be diffent were you are but here in NJ Sears has been in the **** hole as far as service goes. Hell pepboys seamed like gold compared to Sears, walmart, sts and some other little crap hole service centers. so far the 2 crappiest service centers ive seen really screw up alot more then just bending a fender is Sears and Wallmart.
90% of the guys at my pepboys store in the service center has either worked in the garage and moved up in postion (money) or has worked on car in there past. hell even the store manager at my store is into cars and fixing them, i think he has a 1970's charger. theres only 2 kids in the shop that dont have real machincal ablities but are learning by askin for help.
it really depends on the person i believe, hell i went to school for 3 yrs for welding and now im at pepboys workin in the garage and i know a lot more then i ever did workin in there then i wuld by just reading magazines. im not sayin im ASE material since im well not that smart but i can do all the same stuff those ASE guys can excupt the electircal stuff, i hate that.
oh well im dont ranting over how stupid this post has basiclly gotten, figured id throw in a few more stupid words there.

hey no doubt, i agree. it just seems like when something comes in broke and we ask the person what happened, that "pep boys" is the 1st thing they say. your sears down there is our pep boys up here i guess. i guess its not the store at all, its just the people that work there. but still, i couldnt see pulling in a firehawk at walmart, or even sears for that matter. just the big name throws people off.

Yeah i guess with how differnt people have differnt situations at different service centers, kinda gives each other a reputation. in the past ive pulled in some really nice cars that i thought would never come to pepboys. a few being 2004 jaguar x-type, a nice 1988 corvette i worked on last week, 2000 trans am, 2002 camaro ss, 2003 lexus es300.
but i guess alot of it has to deal with the machincal level of everyone. like some ad's say No experience nesscary. some people ive worked with shouldnt have really worked there or any where else that has a car come in the store.
amd i dont think age has anything to do with it, but brains has a lot to deal with it. my friend is a ASE master tech and before he even had his license he built a 450hp 350 for his 1971 chevy 1ton, after that motor went he built a 500hp 350 for the same truck and thats the motor it still has. and he built those when he was in highschool.
i think alot of the serivce centers should do a really good backround check besides crimeal backround checks, maybe most places wont be as bad as they are.

Ok, I DID NOT mean in ANY way to pick on 16-21 year
olds. I was working at a gas station at 18-20 years old,
than worked at three dealerships since. All of my 11-12
years of Auto, about 70% of the 16-21 year olds that I
had worked with, were either dumb or didn't care about
their job, so they kept screwing up alot. A lot of them
lost their jobs because of that.
Years of experience is far more superior than a 16 year
old who's only worked in cars for a few years, if that.
I am not saying ALL 16-21 year olds screw up either.
There are tons of teens who are very well accomplished
with their auto knowledge.
But wouldn't it make sense to see a well educated teen
who's like master certified in ASE work at a dealer where
it's WAY more money than work at a Pep Boys?
Think, dude THINK!

hey youd be suprised. i work with a tech with 30 years in at my place. worked for a few dealers before sears auto. he says that dealers are no fun to work at and everyones uausly got an attitude. its not about the money after a while, its about working with good people in a good environment. just because someone is a master tech, doesnt mean they cant work some place other then a dealer. and your telling me to think?! try thinking of other reasons besides money before you start talking slag. experience matters, we all know this. but just because someone is older doent mean they are always wiser. hell, im teamed with a 43 year old man and i show him atleast one new electrical trick a week. situation: you need a webpage designed and you know nothing about computers. do you go to the 50 year old guy who didnt have computers when he was younger, or hang outside the local high school and ask a 17 year old dude to whip one up for you? my money is with the 17 year old. BECAUSE hes growing up in the age of electronics. that can apply to auto too, since ALL cars have computers in them now. you go to an old school mech with a computer problem, he'll prob have no idea since he grew up with carbs and not FI, but that doesnt mean all of them dont know.
im just saying anyone can learn, it doesnt matter about age in some situations. and if we all knew about cars as much as we say we do, we wouldnt need to bring them to a tech or a mech would we? we'd do it all ourselves no problem. but guess what? we dont know everything about cars. thats why im on this board, to ask questions and learn more. but i see some people have it in their heads that they know all and thats fine, they can be like that. im just finishing up my car that ive been building for years and i cant tell you how many times i was on this board or at the machine shop asking questions about EVERYTHING.
NOW, can we please stop fighting about this already? its really stupid. getting tired of people talking crap, when in turn, we all have no idea who they are or what they know.

Kontrax,
Now this tread of full of pissed off people. You pissed me
off saying that a 19 year old knows more than me. Sure,
depends on what though. But mostly, I can't see how unless
you have some more experience. The older I got, the more
I know.
I apologize for calling you that. I was very upset at you
I felt that you turned around and said that I didn't know
much. I am not saying I know everything. But I know a lot,
I have worked on all kinds of makes and models. I don't like
all the crap you talk about dealers either. You can make
real good money AND still be a great tech with a good
attitude. Also, you have to research on what dealer
fits you. I had to go to three until I found a good one
with better people and good pay. I worked for 2 Ford
dealers before, money and people sucked.
So, can we move on, and forget this stuff? Cause I can't
see staying mad it each other.

depends on what dealer you work for. There were a
few Ford techs in my Ford dealer days that made over
70-80K a year. But, it's VERY hard to do that! Most of
those guys are miserable too. But they have a lot
of money, whooppeee.
Kontrax,
I should have just edited but you are right about
the dealers being about the money more than the
attitudes and good enivronment. But I tell ya, the
people I work for are great. The pay is very good,
and I'm not as stressed as I used to be. But, thinking
back in the day, your mostly right. Most dealers do
tend to carry bad people and bad environment.
Also, thanks for the heads up on the "Ramjet". I forgot
that everyone can see what I have planned for my car.
I'm sure you can beat me, and well with what you have,
but I don't drag race anyways. I like to just have a fast
car and do it as a hobby. I might get to NED by 2005
by the looks of my project. Plus it's too far. I hate long
drives.
I might get to NED by 2005

hey man, i never said a 19 year old knows more then you. thats not what i ment at all. and im sorry for getting pissed at you as well. ive said this may times before, people dont know the tone you mean when you type, and can take stuff the wrong way. i was just playing around with the "my car vs yours" thing. this is the 1st car ive totaly taken apart and rebuilt. put a lot of time and money in. not saying im better or faster or anything like that, im just proud to have done it all myself. again, im sorry to have ticked you off, i really didnt mean it like you think.
your really putting a ram jet in huh? its a nice engine man, im jealous is some aspects. i just got a blower for my engine. maybe ill see you at the drag this summer? how far you live from it? im 15 minutes from Salem NH.

I am about 1-1 1/2 hours away. I really do want to
put in the Ramjet 350, It's actually a popular swap
in older hot hods. I didn't even think it was a great
thing, until I found out that I could do high 12s with
it
Better than high 16s right now!
I'm glad that we are good now. I did actually type
in a bad mood and was mad, so it comes out that way.
I think we have to be a little more careful. The mods
can get pissed. But stuff happens, right?
So, once my boss is done with his upgraded twin
turbos in his 1991 Nissan 300ZX, I will be using the
garage! :lala:
I hope to start this late spring and be done in two months
time. I really have no choice, cause the garage I am using
is a friend's, not mine. The only thing that will take the most
time is the T-56 swap. The motor and wiring is not that big
for me.

let me know how it goes with that swap. i was thinking of doing it, but afraid id break it with the torque i have. i also hate cutting holes into the body. i looked on 700r4.com and was thinking about getting their stage 3 tranny. i know mines gonna die after a few miles, what do you expect from a stock 700r4 that was attatched to a 305 with 150 hp? lol

qiker,
Woah, 10.64! WOW! I wish I had the money to do
10s. I HATE Mustangs too! I think they are garbage.
Kontrax,
Yeah, anything over 425-450 ft. lbs. may break the stock
T-56*. You need a Viper T-56, or a Richmond 6 speed
( although it's a completely different trans.) I think
there's also a Tremec T-56 built to hold more than
that, but all of those mentioned are BIG bucks, and
do not include the necessary conversion parts.
I was going back and forth with the idea of staying
with a 700r4 or swapping in the T-56. I figured that
shifting manually at my command into 6 gears seems
more fun. But I can't really drink my coffee while I
drive.
*note: the 1993 T-56s are junk! Only have about 350
max. torque hold! Any 1994-1997 T-56s are the good ones.
