Speartech?
Any one dealed with them before?
This is the mail I got back from John.
5.7L all aluminum LS1 w/4L60-E trans: $6000 ($6500 w/6-speed)
All engine packages include Speartech stand-alone harness with 3 wire hookup, custom programmed computer, K&N air cleaner, throttle cable, starter, accessory brackets with all belt driven accessories (A/C comp., P.S. pump, Alternator).
The harnesses includes a check engine light, diagnostic connector, fuel pump relay, wires for a computer controlled cooling fan relay, and labeled wires for easy hookup to the battery, ignition switch, and fuel pump. Wires are also included for tach, speed, oil pressure, water temperature, and brake switch / park-neutral switch functions where applicable. These custom stand alone harnesses are built for full function, closed loop control, and designed for non-emissions use (no post-cat O2's, A.I.R. pump, purge canister, or fuel tank evap interface). The harnesses can be built to your desired length specifications.
ALL Speartech engine packages can be viewed running BEFORE purchase!!
Not all engines are available at all times. We have a very nice LS1 / T56 package available now. It has 17,000 miles on it and runs beautiful! I've attached a couple pics. This is complete with air intake duct, K&N filter and motor mounts for 3rd gen application.
$6500 w/6-speed sound like a deal to any one? i've just started looking around and am not really sure what kinda prices people are letting these things go for..

Speartech has an excellent reputation on LS1tech, which is where I spend most of my time online.
I decided to put an LS1 into my 91 RS. I cut corners on buying the driveline because I wanted to do heads and cam on the motor also.
As for the price I think LS1/M6 drivelines usually go for more than LS1/A4 drivelines. I decided to try and save some money on my LS1/A4 driveline. The engine had been sitting for a little while but I was assured it was a good motor when pulled out of a wrecked car. I think it was too but sitting can do bad things pretty quick.
I paid $2200 for my 2000 WS6 LS1/A4 driveline with accessories, exhaust manifolds, MAF etc except AC & coil packets. The engine failed leak down with a 42 in #1 cylinder and 35 in #3 cylinder. The engine will have to come apart and be re-ringed at the very least. Also after the fact an oil line return plug was discovered. The motor at some point in it's life had forced induction on it. I hope the tranny isn't a pile of junk too.
Knowing what I know now, I think the drive line I got was worth $1200, this will be the risk you take. Many people have been burned on ebay with this stuff too. One person on LS1tech had a ebay LS1 blow the radiator hoses off because the head gaskets were blown on the good engine. Another only got about 80 percent of the LS1/driveline he paid for.
If you can afford to gamble and afford to fix the problems you can go either way. If you need to get it right the first time SpearTech will be very hard to beat. You'll also come closer to a turn key set up.

Sounds like a good deal if everything is basically drop in! Sounds like a complete swap from them for that price. Sure, you could go faster with that type of money, but a complete LS1 swap into a 3rg gen is going to be expensive, unless you know someone. Besides, its a new motor and they are always coming out with new things for the Gen3 motors for you to build on in the future. Also, don't forget about stuff like suspension mods, ect. To make everything work great together instead of just working! You would want to plant that new power. good luck on your decision.

going fast isn't going to be a goal for this project, what i really want is to get rid of my unreliable, hard to start, carbed 305 thats only pushing 170hp and getting 12mpg... and trade it in for something i can count on to start every day.. i'm saving up for school right now, and will be moving out of town to go there, so i really need something that i won't have to worrie about dieing on me every other time i turn around. anyway.. i've heard that spohn proformance has a tubular k member in the works that would work with the Ls1 swap. any one know how far they've gotten with it, or if its really gunna happen?

As far as i know, they are due out "early 2004". Which would be now i guess, right? I would just give him a call and ask. He'll be honest with you whether its good news or bad. And for a reliable car for school, buy a Honda and don't turn back. Seriously, they will start everytime(depending on if you have carefully purchased a strong car), and they are great for economical use. Hell, i bought one when i was commuting to school. It was great. Filled my tank once a week for $13 and change! Good cars, young people fail to see that when they stereotype them as ri-ce burners. Then keep the camaro as a project. Its what i have been doing for the past 3 yrs. I too have been paying for school but its a comunity school, not a University or State School, so its under $5K a year pretty much. Being a full time worker/student sucks, especially when you are still dead *** broke when you want to hook up your car. later

i sent spohn an e-mail asking about it, but no responce yet.
i know hondas are good little cars, i was looking at them before i got my camaro. only problem is there just to damn small... i have been thinking about getting a 250cc Ninja tho, brand new they are like $3000 so i figure i could pick up a used one cheap, ins. would be like $85 a month and gas would be pocket change

Getting rid of it and the condenser should be ~50 pounds more weight out of the car.
Haven't done the swap yet still driving my RS w/~260,000 miles on the orginal LO3 & 700R4.
The engine is at Wegner (they build Busch/NASCAR & NASCAR/truck engines) Tear down is this week. Depending on how messed up it is will decide the course forward. I'm hoping we can do a re-ring & ARP rod bolts and a few other things and that's it. We're planning on doing a little engine dyno testing with the LS6, LSX & GMPP intakes if all works out. TEA is porting a set of LS6 heads for the engine this week. Most of the other stuff is collected. I still need to get subframes.
Third Gen Resource was talking about doing a K-member with Spoon that was fully streetable and be out this month. I'd like to use it so I can run Long Tubes. I called TGR today and there wasn't any news on the K.
Worst comes to worst, if the K is a hold point, might try getting a set of Hooker LT's for a TPI car and begging a friend to cut the flange off and weld up an LS1 flange and modify the pipes. Someone did that with either a 2nd Gen or a Nova and it worked.

no, don't need a/c.. but its really nice to have on those hot days (i'd know, i've been without it for about 2 years now). as for the headers, i've heard the stock manifolds will work, and 1 or 2 aftermarket headers. but thats not really the holding point for me, i could make a set myself if need be, i just don't trust my welding on any structural parts...
I don't have a phone number for speartech but here is there website. Also for your information I purchased from John several years ago my 1992 350 TPI with a 700r4 and couldn't be happier.

Rage, whats the latest?
As for A/C hasn't worked in my RS for like four years so it's no biggie to get rid of it besides less weight with it gone.
Stock manifolds and shorties will work but shorties are pretty much worthless compared to the 2000+ cast iron manifolds. The BBK 1 3/4 shorties might work well but I don't know if they will fit.

well, i'm not going to have the money for the swap for about 3 months.. so nothing is going to happen till then.. heard that spohn has a tubular k member in the works for the LS1 swaps, i e-mailed them about it last week and hope to have an answer when they reopen on monday. i'm also planing on swaping in a 4th gen fuel tank (have seen alot of talk about it and so far the only person that came out and said "I did it" never PMed me back...) from what i've heard its the same size and shape, just different piping and wiring..
after looking around and searching for LS1 engines, trannys, cpus and wiring harnesses it seems like Speartech is going to be who i go with to get the power train. i've not seen one negative reply tward them from anyone on any of the 3 boards a search, so he must be doing something right

I just got done dealing with John. $800 for a wirring harness and ecm. I stopped by his place, the setup is incredible, his wiring skill is amazing, and best of all, the result of all his work is incredibly clean and trick looking. I HIGHLY recommend him, he was expensive but well worth every penny. After checking out other people doing the same work, I wouldn't trust anyone else with my parts.
