Torque Converter
Torque Converter
Hey Everyone,
I am looking for a torque converter for my car. I am looking for suggestions on what company to get it from and also some prices that you guys paid for them. I was looking to get one with about 3000-3500 stall. Any help will be appreicated.
Thanks.
Mike

A.C.T. 9.5" from www.pro-built.net I've seen recommended time and time again. I'm running a 9" Continental and couldn't be more happy, different transmission though.

I'm running a 9.5 inch A.C.T and love it. It's a damn good converter for the money you pay for it. Heres their website.

Go w/ a good company the first time so you don't have to upgrade the conv. more than once. Go w/ Precision Industries (Vigilante) series of convertors.

Actually I believe ACT compares to the Pecesion Industries. I asked Dana about it (pro-built) he said only difference was really power handling. It's mainly if you were going to use an instant boost in hp like a 150+ shot or more you should think about going vigilante cause they have anti balloning plates. Other wize he said is was just an extra 2 hundred bucks or so for the name.
I have an ACT 2400 9.5" and I'm very satified with it. They're suppose to hold 800 lbs of tq so there not a wimpy b&m one or anything.
I would call up probuilt converters have to be matched engine combo/cam/gears/tires/and transmission. It's not just a one size fit all like B&M does... they're stalls are going from a SBC making 400 hp or so. Dana can match you stall to your combo and you will be much happier with that. He also sells Vigilantes.

Thanks a lot you guys. I was looking at the Vigilante converters and they do look nice and would probably be exactly what I need, but they are a little pricey. I will have to think about it some more. If I can find a better deal on a converter with ballooning plates, then I will go that route. I expect to be putting a cheater nitrous kit on my motor over the winter, so we'll see.
