anyone have headers coated by TPI383?

Im looking to get my Hooker LTs coated and Chris (TPI383) does this work and I am looking for feedback from members who have had their headers coated by him. Did you like his ceramic coating work? Where you satisfied? Was it worth the money you spent on them? Has the coating held up?

Chris if you reading this, Im just looking for feedback on you. I read a few negative things about your work so I just want to protect myself. I had you do a few powercoating jobs for me in the past and they where great. Now I need headers done. let me know what you can for me.

PS. yes guys, I have read all the previous threads where some members are bashing Chros' work and stuff. From my previous experiance with his powdercoating, all I can say is he did a great job and I am very picky on things like that. I give him 2 thumbs up on powdercoating. There is pics of his work on the board of my custommade T56 crossmember I made. Like I said great work as far as powdercoating goes.

Re: anyone have headers coated by TPI383?

I've had 2 sets of headers, and one y pipe coated by chris. Never had a quality or time issue with him.

I actually just sent a brand new set of headers for my FJ Cruiser to him because the manufacturer doesn't know how to coat properly.

Re: anyone have headers coated by TPI383?

I'm not one to tell others what to do, but I'd suggest reading feedback on his business practices from more then just one person who has dealt with him. He has alot more bad reviews on this site then good ones, fair warning;

Chris / TPI383 - CE Coatings Horrific Business Person

Chris / TPI383 - CE Coatings Review

Avoid CE Coatings like the plague!!!

Chris@CECoatings.com

etc etc etc..

being an online vendor myself on many other websites, I will say that if there is someone that is unhappy, they are recognized far more than the happy customers. Thats just how it goes.

Re: anyone have headers coated by TPI383?

Anyone that provides a service or sells items are going to have unhappy customers here and there for whatever reason. It's how they handle the situation that makes them good or bad in my opinion. That's why I always tell people to do a search on the seller and decide for themselves what they'd like to do.

Re: anyone have headers coated by TPI383?

Bottledz28...You could always send the headers to Jet-Hot.

If it was my money I would stay away from Chris (TPI383).

I work too hard for my money to get caught up in a waiting game and shoddy work.

Re: anyone have headers coated by TPI383?

I sent my headers in to him to get coated and they came out just fine. I read all the reviews about it before but I still ended up going with him and I was a little nervous but it worked out good. Only bad thing is he was a little slow but I think that was partly my fault. I have a picture of them before they went in the car but it is on my phone and is blurry

Re: anyone have headers coated by TPI383?

I used Jet-Hot three years ago and my Z is a daily driver. After about a year rust started showing up These are SLP S/S headers. I have not tried to polish them but maybe that will help.

PM me or e-mail me for a price.

As for rust. Ask the above few guys who have had work done. Kenton has been runing his turbo headers the longest and they still look great.

Re: anyone have headers coated by TPI383?

My new headers for my '07 FJ Cruiser were done in a fashion similar to Jet Hot. They started to rust BAD after 4 months.

I had to buy another set, and send them to Chris to have him strip the factory coating, prep them, and re ceramic coat them the RIGHT way. He just told me that they should be done monday, so we'll have some pics shortly of some real recent work he's done for me.

As for my SLP headers he did for me 3 years ago...they still look new. The last set of headers he did for me I had maybe 2 years before I sold them. They looked new as well.

Plus, the warranty is good! You send him new parts, and you get a lifetime warranty on his coating!

Here's a very good rule to live by, believe half of what you see, and none of what you hear. I honestly don't know what exactly happened with the deals that didn't go as expected, but there is always two sides to every story. From what I know of Chris, he's a stand up guy, and he's been here for quite awhile. If his intent was to consistently do people wrong, he wouldn't still be posting. He hasn't gone anywhere, he's still here, posting away....

Too bad they haven't looked like that since about a year after they were installed. At this point you'd never know they were even coated. Too bad considering the car is hardly driven, and never in the winter/rain. This is not a complaint or meant to imply poor workmanship etc, as these were NOT new when sent out to be coated.

Actually, I've had friends south of the border use your services and were less than satisfied (I've seen the cars and parts). Just so you're aware my comment isn't just a shot in the dark.

Also, I sent you a PM looking for some custom work a while back but changed my mind after reading your responses to Brisk's issues.

BottledZ28 - If you don't know anyone personally who does the work....ask around. Nothing like seeing the part in front of you and examining the work. Pics are fine BUT nothing beats the part in front of you ON the car to look at.

In person references are always more reliable than reading posts or looking online. Just my 4c. Good luck.

Well I finally got some time set aside to swap out my headers today. You can tell the original headers coated by Doug Thorley.com look pretty beat up. The once shiny finish has turned to a dull grey. This leads me to believe that the headers were not vibratory polished as I was told they were. Also, you can see the primary flange...the part that meets the gasket on the head itself is rusty. I'm not sure how the INSIDE flange turning rusty can be blamed on "salt corrosion". But, here is some proof of the poor coating. I also included some pictures of my new headers installed. They look better than my original set did when they were new. Thanks Chris!
